“CUT AND MEASURE”
1. Using a piece of paper, trace the two triangles and cut them
out.
Overlap the two triangles such that the three pairs of vertices
coincide with each other.
3. Upon coinciding the three pairs of vertices, identify the three
pairs of corresponding angles and three pairs of corresponding
sides.
4. After identifying the six pairs of corresponding parts, find the
measurement of each to complete the table below. (Use a
protractor in getting the degree measure of each angle and use
a ruler in getting the length of each side.)
5. Give your definition of congruent triangles.
A⟷D B⟷E C⟷F
— is the symbol for
“correspondence”
This correspondence was established when
we overlapped the two triangles so that the
three pairs of angles and the three pairs of
sides coincide with each other.
• What is the definition
of congruent triangles?
In the illustrations below, the congruent corresponding
parts are marked identically.
Note that when naming two congruent
triangles one must observe the order of
vertices of each triangle based on its
correspondence. Like in our example
• Do you think some designing structures
require the knowledge of triangle
congruence? Why or why not?
• Do you think the knowledge of triangle
congruence has something to do with
your dream profession? Why or why
not?
An example of infrastructures having
congruent triangles is the Mandaue-
Mactan Bridge as shown below.
FACTS: In the real world,
congruent triangles are used in
construction when we need to
reinforce structures so that they are
strong and stable, and do not bend
or buckle in strong winds or when
under load.
The bridge below uses a triangular truss
design. Some vertices are labeled and
∆AIM≅∆MEN. List the congruent sides and
congruent angles of these congruent
triangles.
A.Direction: Read each question
carefully. Write the letter which
corresponds to the correct
answer on the space before
each number.
B.
A.Assignment
1.) Locate things in your house or anywhere you can,
that illustrate two congruent triangles. Take a photo of
the two congruent triangles. Then, name the first
triangle as ΔFAN and the second as ΔTIP. Then,
a. mark the congruent parts identically;
b. write the congruence statement for the two
congruent triangles; and
c. list down the 3 pairs of corresponding congruent
sides and 3 pairs of corresponding congruent angles.
