related to the teacher’s subject

of teaching as a Profession in
the Philippines.
Pre-Hispanic period
 No establish formal schooling
 No formal preparation for teachers
too
 Parents or tribal leaders – serve as
teachers at home
AIMS: LIFE SKILLS
 Security and survival (tool &
instrument making)
 Conformity (adherence to moral
code of group)
 Preservation and transmission of
traditions (language)
During the Spanish period
 Free public school system – established

 Due to the shortage of teachers –
Thomasites became teachers
Due to urgent need for teachers –
Filipinos (bright ones) were given
opportunities to be educated in
American government - pensionados
Establish PNS (Philippine Normal
School) in Manila – 2 years
1949 – teachers’ preparation
became 4 years, and renamed PNS
to PNC (Philippine Normal College)

Teachers or Philippine Board
