• According to Vinz,2015  theoretical
framework defines the key concepts in your
research, suggests relationships between them, and
discusses relevant theories based on your
literature review.
• A strong theoretical framework gives your research
direction. It allows you to convincingly interpret,
explain, and generalize from your findings and show
the relevance of your thesis or dissertation topic in

FOUR TYPES OF ENTRY THAT MAY BE
EMPLOYED

1. Quotation - the exact words of an author are

reproduced and enclosed in quotation marks. It
is important to copy the statement verbatim and
to indicate the exact page reference.
WRITING THE REVIEW OF LIT
Example of a direct quotation:
Cambre and Cook (2015) said that
“computer anxiety as the feelings of worries,
fear, or incompetence experienced by users
when they use or even anticipate using
computer technologies” (p. 17).
Computer anxiety is found to be “a source
of negative impact on organizational
performance” (Desai & Richards, 2008, p. 28).

2. Paraphrase - you restate the author's thoughts in your
own words.
According to Cambre and Cook (2015), computer
anxiety refers to the emotional uncertainties experienced by
users when using technologies.
Computer anxiety is believed to have a negative
implication on the performance of individuals (Desai &
Richards, 2008, p. 28).
