Air Conditioning Systems

Summer Air Conditioning System for Hot and Dry Weather
Summer Air Conditioning System for Hot and Wet Weather
Winter Air Conditioning System
An air-conditioned plant to be designed for a small office room for winter conditions.
Outdoor conditions=100C DBT and 80C WBT
Required indoor conditions=200C DBT and 60% RH
Amount of free air circulation =0.3 m3/min/person
Seating capacity of the office =50
The required condition is achieved fist by heating and then adiabatic humidifying. Find
the followings:
• Heating capacity of the coil in KW and the surface temperature required if the by-pass
factor of the coil is 0.32.
• The capacity of the humidifier
• Draw schematic and psychometric diagram.
• An air-conditioning system is to take in air at 1 atm, 307 K, and 70
percent relative humidity and deliver it at 295 K and 50 percent
relative humidity. The air flows first over the cooling coils, where it is
cooled and dehumidified, and then over the resistance heating wires,
where it is heated to the desired temperature.
Assuming that the condensate is removed from the cooling section at
283 K, determine (a) the temperature of air before it enters the heating
section, (b) the amount of heat removed in the cooling section, and (c)
the amount of heat transferred in the heating section, both in kJ/kg dry
air.
2) 250 m3 of air is supplied per minute from outdoor conditions of 38°C DBT and 25°C WBT
to an air-conditioned room. The air is dehumidified by a cooling coil having a by-pass factor
0.35 and dew point temperature 13°C and then by a chemical dehumidifier. Air leaves the
chemical dehumidifier at 32°C DBT. Air then is passed over a cooling coil whose surface
temperature is 13°C and by-pass factor 0.25.
Calculate the capacities of the two cooling coils and dehumidifier.

3) For a hall to be air-conditioned, the following conditions are given:
Outdoor condition ................................................................................... 39°C DBT, 20°C WBT
Required comfort condition .................................................................... 20°C DBT, 60% RH
Seating capacity of hall ........................................................................... 1200
Amount of outdoor air supplied .............................................................. 0.3 m 3/min. per person.
If the required condition is achieved first by adiabatic humidification and then by cooling, determine:
a) Capacity of the cooling coil in tonnes; and
b) Capacity of the humidifier in kg/h.
4) It is required to design an air-conditioning plant for a small office room for following winter conditions:
Outdoor conditions .................................................................................. 12°C DBT and 10°C WBT
Required conditions ................................................................................. 20°C DBT and 60% RH
Amount of air circulation ......................................................................... 0.30 m 3/min/person
Seating capacity of office ......................................................................... 60.
The required condition is achieved first by heating and then by adiabatic humidification,
Determine the following :
a) Heating capacity of the coil in kW and the surface temperature required if the by pass factor of coil is 0.4
b) The capacity of the humidifier.
Solve the problem by using psychrometric chart.
