• Researchers define stress as a
physical, mental, or emotional response
to events that causes bodily or mental
tension.

• Simply put, stress is any outside force


or event that has an effect on our body
or mind.
Stress…
 When you feel threatened,
your nervous system responds by
releasing a flood of stress hormones,
including adrenaline and cortisol, which
rouse the body for emergency action.
 Your heart pounds faster, muscles
tighten, blood pressure rises, breath
quickens, and your senses become
sharper.
What Causes Us Stress?

While incarcerated prisoners make


twenty decisions a day, those of us
walking the streets make one
hundred & twenty decisions a day.
