A 9 years old Watson auditioned eight times
for the role that would make her an
international star. Harry Potter author J.K.
Rowling, who was deeply involved in the
film process to make sure it stayed true to
the book, wanted Watson for the role of
Hermione from her first screen test.
T he Little Emma, of course, expected
success, but she did not think she would win
among thousands of competitors for the
role of Hermione. Watson went through
eight auditions and, along with Daniel

commercial box office. Emma Watson
became one of the most famous girls in
Britain and the world. But the glory did not
change it. Emma still loved spending time
with her classmates and shopping with
them. Unlike Hermione, Watson did not like
academic disciplines, but she liked sports. It
is noteworthy that she liked hockey 3
especially.
During her school years, Watson fell in love with
sports, visual arts and contemporary music, in
particular Brian Adams , Dido and Suzanne
Vega. With classical music, as, indeed, with
opera, Emma's relationship did not work out.
But her dad instilled in her a love of rock and
roll: since childhood, the actress heard the
songs of Elvis Presley and Chuck Berry in the
Hobbies house . Emma admits that Julia Roberts is her
idol and one of her favorite actresses. She
enjoys watching films with Goldie Hawn and
Sandra Bullock . One of her favorite actors is
John Cleese, who played Nearly Headless Nick,
a Gryffindor ghost in the Potterian. The girl
loves Italian food (especially pizza) and
chocolate. Emma loves to read (her favorite
children's writer is American Roald Dahl), but
the girl is not as keen on literature as Hermione
Granger.

The filming of the first and the following
parts lasted almost all year, so Emma had to
move to the Headington School for girls
where she had the opportunity to study
part-time or in the distance. Even when the
filming process was underway, Watson and
his colleagues did their homework five
hours a day. In 2006, between the fourth

Watson sufficiently impressed casting
agents and the film's producers, and won the
role of Hermione Granger, Harry Potter's
smart, bossy best friend and voice of reason.
Harry Potter was portrayed by Daniel
Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint was cast as Ron
Weasley, Harry's other best friend. The trio
of British child actors would become known
around the globe for their roles as young
wizards fighting a battle between good and
evil. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
was released in November 2001.

film based on a children's novel, Ballet
Shoes by Noel Streatfield. The film was
aired on BBC One, and with Watson in the
lead role, garnered decent, if not stellar,

In 2008, Watson branched out into
animated work, voicing the character of
Princess Pea in The Tale of Despereaux.

Watson is an outspoken feminist. She has
promoted education for girls, travelling to
Bangladesh and Zambia to do so. In July 2014, she
was appointed a UN Women Goodwill
ambassador.That September, an admittedly
nervous Watsondelivered an address at UN
Headquarters in New York City to launch the UN
Women campaign HeForShe, which aims to urge
men to advocate for gender equality. In that
speech she said she began questioning gender-
based assumptions at age eight when she was
called "bossy" (a trait she has attributed to her
being a "perfectionist")whilst boys were not, and
at 14 when she was "sexualised by certain
elements of the media". Further, Watson's speech
described feminism as "the belief that men and
Influence women should have equal rights and
opportunities" and declared that the perception

organisation's website crashed after press
coverage of the event. Watson later said she
received threats within less than twelve hours of
making the speech, which left her "raging. If they
were trying to put me off [women's rights work],
it did the opposite." Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka,
the Executive Director of UN Women, stated, "For
a time, there was a conversation about whether
'feminism' was a good thing or a bad thing... [Her
speech] gave us the word back In 2015, Malala
Yousafzai told Watson she decided to call herself 14
a feminist after hearing her speech.
