INTRODUCTION
• There are occurrences of Emotional , Physical and Spiritual exhaustion from
witnessing and absorbing the problems and suffering of others ( Perry,2010,Sabo
2011).
• The current situation has generated a range of stressors that could negatively impact
nurses and other health workers ( Jackson et al., 2020; Usher, Durkin, & Bhullar,
2020).
• Critical care Nurses may be particularly affected by severe emotional distress which
has been associated with the development of Empathy fatigue (EF) and/or burnout
(Alharbi, Jackson, & Usher, 2020).

A study was done to investigate
collaboration between relatives of frail
elderly patients and nurses in acute
hospital wards, and to develop and test an
instrument to investigate, from the relatives’
perspective, dimensions of collaboration in
this context and the association between
collaboration and satisfaction with the
hospital care trajectory.

RESEARCH QUESTION

What is the Prevalence and Factors contributing to

Empathy fatigue among Nurses working in Critical

care Units?
TITLE OF THE STUDY

Identify Prevalence & Factors contributing to Empathy fatigue

(EF) among Nurses working in Critical Care units with a view to

develop “Empathy Resiliency” module

PROBLEM STATEMENT

A Descriptive study to Identify Prevalence and Factors contributing to

“Empathy Fatigue” among Nurses working in Critical Care units of

selected hospitals from a Metropolitan city with a view to develop an

“Empathy Resiliency” module.

OBJECTIVES
PRIMARY :
To identify the prevalence and factors contributing to Empathy fatigue
among nurses working in Critical care units.

SECONDARY:

To develop “Empathy Resiliency "module.

OPERATIONAL DEFINITIONS
