Good Bacteria
• Also known as beneficial or
probiotic bacteria. They are
found mostly in our intestines. In
our body there are 85% good
bacteria and the other 15% are the bad bacteria.
Scientists estimated that only 1- 10% of total
bacteria have been discovered
How does good bacteria help our
body?
•Good bacteria help digest food
and help fight invading
harmful bacteria. They are also
used in making dairy products
and clean up oil spills to keep
our environment healthy
Examples of good bacteria
• Lactobacillus Acidophilus
• Lactobacillus Rhamnosus
• Bacillus Coagulans
• Bificlobaclenium animalis
• Escherichra coli or E. coli
• Lactococcus Lactis
• Lactobacillus Reuteri
Lactobacillus Acidophilus
• One of the most common and versatile
probiotics in the market
• Frequently used in yogurt cultures
• Genus of Gram-positive, facultative anaerobic or
microaerophilic
• Rod-shaped, non-spore-forming bacteria
Lactobacillus Rhamnosus
• Shows some medical effects similar to its relative
Lactobacillus Acidophilus but is more expensive
and has not been subjected to the same amount
of study
• The Indian Journal of Medicinal Microbiology.
Notes that it has proven beneficial affects and
intestinal immunity
Bacillus Coagulans
• Classified in the Lactobacillus genus, B coagulans
• Relatively rare on the supplement
• Never been used in commercial foods
Bifidobacterium animalis
• Famed for its ability to improve digestive
regularity
• Frequently used for peopl with irritable bowel
syndrome or chronic constipation
• Can be found in the large intestine of most
mammals, including humans
Escherichra coli or E. coli
• Can prevent and treat ulcerative colitis
according to the study of Japanese, published in
2005
• Rod-shaped and commonly can be found in the
lower intestine of warm-blooded organisms
Lactococcus Lactis
• Limited medicinal value and it offers extentive
commercial and culinary
• Almost all forms of cheese and buttermilk are
manufactured by Lactococcus Lactis
• Used alive for the treatment of humgn disease
Lactobacillus Reuteri
• Also called the “Universal probiotic”
• Found in the colons of most animals where it can
fight pathogenic bacteria
• Found in human breast milk
• Responsible for some of the immunosupportive
and anti-gas effects associated with
breastfeeding
• First described in the early 1980’s
