Introduction
The French word ‘Lingerie’ is derived
from the word ‘linge’ which means to
linen.

They may also be called ‘intimate


clothing’ or simply ‘intimates’ made up
of several product segments like bras,
panties, shapewear, sleepwear,
lightweight robes, and daywear.

They are worn beneath clothing usually


for comfort. It is also used not only to
give shape to ones body but also about
how one feels.

Fabric Defect
Patches of dark colour is seen on the underband due

Pattern Making Defects –
Size Defects

The example has been taken of a bra of


size 34D.
The specifications of this size is 28-31 inch
under-bust and 36-38 for the over-bust.
But the under-bust is 26.5 inches and the
over-bust is 32 inches.
This does not fulfill the purpose for
which the piece of clothing was
manufactured.

Spreading &
Defects
Cutting

Spreading and cutting are one of the initial steps of creating a


garment. If this quality is a compromise, the produced
garment after will not serve it's purpose.

Some types of spreading and cutting defects are:


Missing Parts
Both cups being cut asymmetrical
Plies misaligned
For panties, front rise and back rise cut with same
measurements; ideally back rise should be more
than front rise.

Other Cutting Defects

• Parts cut on wrong grain


• Mis-cut
• Notches being cut wrong
• Fabric being laid and spreading unconventionally
• Parts being cut on wrong nap and face of fabric
• Length issues
• Size issues
• Pieces don't belong to same category (S/M/L)
• Waist line being cut on woven fabric not leaving gap for elastic
• For breastfeeding bras - not leaving enough gap for opening

Conclusion

The purpose of the inspection process is to certify that all of the


lingerie under production have been thoroughly tested and
inspected. Once all of the lingerie that pass the final inspection
will be labeled according to the quality control standard it had
taken on to ensure product reliability. Items that pass quality
control inspection are ready for shipping and distribution.

All the possible defects that can be found in the brallete were
analyzed. And these intensity of these defects can lead to
customer dissatisfaction.
