INDUSTRY PROFILE
An industrial valve is a device that either automatically or manually regulates,
controls, or restricts the flow of a liquid or gas running through the piping system.
These valves function either through external actuation or as per its design. Ball
valves, butterfly valves, check valves, and gate valves some of the types of these
valves.
Based on valve type, the industrial valves market is segmented into ball valves,
globe valves, butterfly valves, gate valves, diaphragm valves, plug valves, check
valves, and safety valves. Among all types, the ball valves segment is expected to
lead the industrial valves market from 2018 to 2023. The adoption of these valves is
anticipated to increase in oil & gas and water & wastewater treatment industries,
due to their tight sealing with low torque feature.
India industrial valves market is projected to grow to nearly $ 2.2 billion by 2023, on
the back of rising energy demand and rapid expansion in oil & gas pipelines across
the country.

PORTER’S FIVE FORCE MODEL
• Power of suppliers:- MODERATE
Many of valtek corporation raw materials – bar stock, fasteners etc. – are not custom designed, and
therefore available from a wide variety of sources.
Company is a vertically integrated manufacturer for necessary custom parts.
Minimum switching costs in moving between suppliers.
• Power of buyers:- LOW
Sell products and services to more than 5000 companies directly or through designated channel
Customers have no choice but to repair valtek custom designed parts to maintain production little power
to negotiate prices.
• Power of substitutes:- MODERATE
Valves are absolutely indispensable parts of fluid control systems. Only valtek will be able to repair or
replace custom made parts.
Customers cannot put off purchases or repairs in recessionary times
However , companies could cut costs by purchasing less sophisticated parts from other manufacturers at
minimum switching cost, there isn’t always a need for custom made supplies.
• Barriers to entry:- HIGH
Much of valtek sales through referrals or existing relationships with clients, difficult for a new
entrant to compete against reputations of already established companies.
To build manufacturing plants and service centres, as well as hire experienced personnel, requires
extremely large initial capital investment.
Trademarks and patents held by established companies make it difficult for new entrants to design
competing products.
• Industry rivalry:- HIGH
Top 30 global valve manufacturers comprise less than 30% of total valve market.
Less fragmented, larger companies tend to hold more of the market share.
In aftermarket services market, independent local repair shops can make repairs for non –
customized parts due to existence of common standards.
