 There are 37
volcanoes in the
Philippines.
 22 are still active
volcanoes
 An active volcano is a
volcano that has had at
least one eruption during
the past 10,000 years.
 An active volcano might
be erupting or dormant.
 An erupting volcano is
an active volcano that is
having an eruption...
 A dormant volcano is an
active volcano that is not
erupting, but supposed to
erupt again.
 An inactive volcano is one
that could erupt but has
not erupted for more
than 10,000 years.
 Inactive volcanoes are
also called dormant or
sleeping volcanoes.
 Inactive volcanoes are
expected to erupt again
at some point, despite
being dormant for
thousands of years.
 Active Volcanoes in the
Philippines
 6 Most Active Volcanoes in the
Philippines
1. Mayon Volcano
2. Taal Volcano
3. Mount Kanlaon
4. Mount Bulusan
5. Mount Hibok-Hibok
6. Mount Pinatubo
 Mayon Volcano
 2.46 kilometers high
 It is surrounded by three cities
in Albay province.
 It has a record of 51 eruptions
with the most violent being
recorded in February of 1814.
 It is the Philippines' most
active volcano and is
considered to be the world's
most perfectly formed
volcano for its symmetrical
cone.
 Taal Volcano
It is located in Batangas
The main crater lake is 80
meters deep.
It is one of the most active
volcanoes in the Philippines.
Its most memorable
eruption was in 1754,
which lasted for almost
seven months
devastating the nearby
Lipa and Tanauan in
Batangas.
 Mount Kanlaon
 Total of 30 recorded eruption
 The third most active volcano in
the Philippines.
 It is 2.43 kilometers high and is
located in Negros Oriental, near
Bacolod City.
 It was only in 1902 when the
volcano erupted with lava.
 Most of its eruptions have been
considered phreatic and mild,
characterized mainly by ash falls.
 Phreatic eruptions are steam-
driven explosions that occur when
water beneath the ground or on
the surface is heated by magma,
lava, hot rocks, or new volcanic
deposits.
 Mount Bulusan
A neighboring volcano of Mayon
in the Bicol region, Bulusan
Volcano is located in Sorsogon
province, in the southern part of
the region.
Most of its eruptions have been
phreatic.
Ash explosions are very common
to Bulusan Volcano, which can
last for months to a few years.
Its worst eruption was recorded
in 1918 which lasted until 1922,
causing some landslides and
lava flows.
 Mount Hibok-Hibok
 Camiguin Island in the Bohol Sea
 It is a young volcano and
relatively a small one compared to
the other stratovolcanoes .
 A stratovolcano is a tall,
conical volcano composed of
one layer of hardened lava,
tephra, and volcanic ash.
 Its base diameter is 10
kilometers.
 It has five eruptions in recorded
history, the most significant of
which is the consecutive eruptions
from 1948 to 1953, which killed
hundreds of citizens nearby.
 Mount Pinatubo
Located within the boundaries of
Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales
It is one of the most famous
volcanoes in the country.
 It has two recorded
eruptions, one has been the most
historic and devastating eruption
in the Philippines.
The 1991 eruption displaced tens
of thousands of locals and
affected the whole Luzon
island.
 It was the second largest
eruption of the 20th century
(next to Novarupta in Alaska).

Philippines
Top 5 Inactive Volcano in the
Philippines
1. Alligator Lake
2. Anilao Hill
3. Mount Atimbia
4. Mount Bagacay
5. Mount Balikabok
 Alligator Lake
 Tadlac Lake, also colloquially
known as Alligator Lake, is a
freshwater crater lake located
in Barangay Tadlac, in the
municipality of Los Baños of
Laguna province in the
Philippines.
 Anilao Hill
 Anilao Hill is a mountain and
is located in Province of
Batangas, Calabarzon,
Philippines.
 The estimate terrain elevation
above seal level is 248 meters.
 Mount Atimbia
 Also known as Susong Dalaga
mountain, is a conical peak
on the lake
island of Talim on Laguna de
Bay, the largest lake in the
Philippines.
 The mountain ridge is 438 m
(1,437 ft) in elevation and the
highest point of Talim Island.
 The peak falls under the
jurisdiction of the towns
of Binangonan and Cardona in
Rizal province.
 Mount Bagacay
 Mount Bagacay is a mountain
and is located in Province of
Camarines Norte, Bicol,
Philippines.
 The elevation above sea level is
787 metres
 Mount Balikabok

 Balikabok is next to Mount

Dangas and is located in
Province of Zambales, Central
Luzon, Philippines.
 Earthquake
 Any sudden shaking of
the ground caused by the
passage of seismic
waves through Earth’s
rocks.
 Seismic waves are produced when
some form of energy stored in
Earth’s crust is suddenly released,
usually when masses of rock
straining against one another
suddenly fracture and “slip.”
The Philippines are within the "Pacific
Ring of Fire". Three tectonic plates
meet in the Philippines' underground.
The Ring of Fire is a major area in the
basin of the Pacific Ocean where a
large number of earthquakes and
volcanic eruptions occur.
The movements of these 3 tectonic
plates are the reason for the very
frequent earthquakes in the
Philippines.
We count 9 to 18 earthquakes per day.
Most of them are weak and nobody
feels them.
 Zero to three times per year a
strong to devastating
earthquake shakes our islands.
 The last extreme earthquake
happened on October 15, 2013
in Bohol.
 This magnitude 7.2
earthquake and the more
than 300 aftershocks
destroyed many houses,
churches, roads and
bridges.
