Preperation
You must have the following specific information to complete the scenario:

Site

 BTS position onsite

 Position of BTS power breakers on the customer’s power panel


 For indoor: Position of PCM cables (Abis, Abis2) at the DDF
 For outdoor: Arrival of PCM (via microwave link or external PCM cable).
Equipment configuration
 BTS type
 Number of sectors and bridges to be used
 Number of AN/TRX per sector
 Antennas to be connected to the BTS
 Twin mode for twin TRE modules
 Position of external alarms cables to be connected
 Defence parameter T_POWER_DOWN: inhibited or not

Check Power Supply and Power Up BTS

Before powering up the BTS

Ensure that The protective earth is connected to the equipment earth terminal .

The electrical power to the equipment is disconnected from the site power panel

Check or set the switch positions. Check that breakers are in the power OFF position,
marked ’0’. If they are not, set them to the ’0’ position.

Power up the BTS and measure the Power Supply Voltage:

1. At the site power panel, check that the power supply line to the BTS is
disconnected.

Result: The line is disconnected.

2. Remove the rubber protective caps from the power supply terminals (on the right,
at the top of the connection area)

Check Power Supply and Power Up BTS

3. Check that nothing can provoke a short circuit between the 0 and 48 V
connectors.

4. At the site power panel, set up the power supply line, operate fuse holder 1
(e.g.: BS X-1 in which X is the BTS rack number).

Result: The line is connected.

5. Check with the multimeter that the 0V and -48V voltages are on the right
terminals
6. At the site power panel, disconnect the power supply line, operate the
fuseholder.

Result: The line is disconnected.

7. Replace the rubber protective caps on the power supply terminals (rack
top).

Check Power Supply and Power Up BTS

7. Replace the rubber protective caps on the power supply terminals (rack
top).

Check the power supply to the modules:

1. Check that all the TREs are set to ENABLE.


Result:TRE enabled
2. Power supply at the site power panel:
Connect line for BTS
Result:The line is connected
3. Set switches INT&DCOUT , SR1 to SR5 to ON (marked ’1’ position) in the
Result:The power SUM LEDs come on.

Prepare BTS NEM

Install BTS NEM on PC


1. Start the LMT PC on which you want to install the BTS NEM
2. When Windows is operational, insert the CD-ROM containing the
BTS NEM software in the CD-ROM drive
3. Select the folder containig the BTS NEM software BTSWAXxx and
double click on BTSWAXxx.exe.
4. The "BTSNEM - xxxx Setup" window opens.
5. Click on [ Next ] to start the installation or click on [ Cancel ] to
abort the installation.

Prepare BTS NEM

6. A new window appears in which you must enter the destination


folder.

7. Enter the name of the folder in which you want to place the
BTS NEM installation files.
8. Click on [ Install ] to continue with the installation or click
on [ Cancel ] to abort the installation.

9. The following window indicates that installation is in progress:

10. When the installation is completed, the “completion” window appears.

11. Click on [ Finish ].


The BTS NEM application is now installed. An BTS NEM icon appears on the LMT
desktop window.

Start the BTS NEM Software

To start the BTS NEM software:

1. Click on the Start menu item and


follow the path:
Start -> Programs -> BTS ->
BTSNEMxxxxx

The "BTS NEM Startup" window is


displayed, as shown in the following
figure.

2. Enter your user name in the ’User Name’ field in the "BTS NEM
Startup”window.

3. Enter your password in the ’User Password’ field in the "BTS NEM
Startup” window.
4. If you want to set up the interface, click on [ Interface Settings ] to
display the"BTS Interface settings" panel, as shown in the following figure.

5. In the "BTS Interface settings" window


select the appropriate interface

6. If the RS232 serial interface is used select


the appropriate COM Port
and Baudrate, as required.

7. Click on [ OK ] in the "BTS Interface


settings" window.

8. Click on [ Connect ] in the "BTS NEM

Tree Navigation View

This window contains general data specific to the selected BTS. All
information displayed is read-only. Select the tree navigation view to
modify the BTS settings or parameters.

To open the "BTS Commissioning" window, follow the menu path:


Configuration -> BTS Commissioning

Download Commissioning Software

To download the BTS software from BTS NEM:


1. From the menu bar, follow the menu path:
Configuration -> BTS Software Download The "Software Download"
window opens.

2. Select the required master file, the CPF file and the CODA file
using the
folder icon button.
3. Click on [ OK ] to start the software download.

Download Commissioning Software

4. When the download is finished click on [ OK ] in the "Download


Status” window.
The "Download Status" window is displayed. It shows the file which is
being downloaded.

Note: When the commissioning software download is finished


the [ Start
Commissioning ] option becomes active in the "BTS Commissioning"
window.

5. Click on [ Start Commissioning ] to activate the commissioning tasks.

Edit Q1 Address

Modifying the Qmux Address assigns a logical reference number to the


address of the SUM board. The reference number is used by other
Qmux Entities to locate the SUM board. It must not conflict with the
Logical addressing of other Qmux boards in the system.

1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the Edit Q1 Address task


The "Q1 Address Setting" window is displayed, as shown in the following
figure.

Edit Q1 Address

If a value is already given to the Q1 address this value is displayed.


If no value is given to the Q1 address the ’Q1 Address ’ field is empty.

2. Enter the required numerical value in the ’Q1 Address ’ field.


3. Click on [ OK ] to save the new address.
If the address was saved successfully the Q1 Address Setting ...
success message is displayed in the ’Commissioning State’ area of the
"BTS Commissioning" window.
4. Select as Done the Edit Q1 Address task.

Edit Remote Inventory

To edit Remote Inventory, from the "BTS Commissioning" window:


1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the Edit Remote
Inventory task
The "Edit Remote Inventory" window is displayed, as shown in the
following figure.

Change Logical Site Name

To change the logical site name from the "BTS Commissioning" window:

1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the change logical site name

The "Logical Site Name" window is displayed, as shown in the following figure.

2. Select the logical site name, if it is already listed, or enter a new logical

site name.

3. Click on [ OK ] to start the process.


4. Select as Done the Change Logical Site Name task.

Edit Sector Mapping

1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the Edit Sector Mapping


task.
The "Sector Mapping" window is displayed, as shown in the following
figures.
2. Enter the sector numbers according to the
requested configuration.
3. Click on [ OK ] to store the data.
If the antenna mapping was saved
successfully the Apply RI Changes :
BTS...... success message is displayed
in the ’Commissioning State’ area of
the "BTS Commissioning" window.

Hardware Check

1. From the "BTS Commissioning" window click on [ Start ] button

corresponding to the Hardware Check task.

The "Hardware Check" window is displayed, as shown in the following figure.

2. Click on [ Close ] to close the "Hardware Check" window.

Edit TMA Settings

1. From the "BTS Commissioning" window click on [ Start ] button

corresponding to the Edit TMA Settings task.The "Modify TMA Settings" window
is displayed, as shown in the following figure.

2. Enter the TMA parameters for all antenna ports.

If the same parameters must be added for all ports the information can be

entered in the fields in ’Clipboard TMA Data’ area, then select the ’Overwrite’

option for the concerned antenna ports and click on [ Copy Values ].

3. Click on [ Save ] to save the settings.

Twin - TRA Settings

1. From the "BTS Commissioning" window click on [ Start ] button


corresponding to the Twin - TRA Settings task.
The "Twin - TRA Settings" window is displayed, as shown in the following
figure.

2. Enter the configuration mode for each module.


3. Click on [ OK ] to save the settings.

Init All Sectors

1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the Init All Sectors task


The "Init All Sectors" window is displayed, as shown in the following figure.

2. Click on [ OK ] to initialize all sectors.


When the initialization is finished the "Init All Sectors" window is closed.

Set PM18 Parameters

Set the power modules parameters:


1. At the BTS NEM, select:
Configuration -> Hardware Assistant
2. In the "Hardware Assistant" window, click on [ Modify Power
Modules Settings ].
The following window opens.

3. Default cell voltage is 2.29V at 20C. If the cell voltage given on


battery label
differs by more than +/- 0.01V, enter the new value.

Set PM18 Parameters

4. Set the Max. charging current to:

 8 A for one battery branch

 16 A for two battery branches.

5. Enter the number of equipped PM18 modules.

6. Click on [ OK ].
A confirmation window opens.
7. Click on [ OK ] to confirm the message.

8. Close the "Hardware Assistant" window.

Inhibit Power Down Timer

1. At the BTS NEM, in Tree View select Remote Inventory.


2. In the "Remote Inventory" window select the "Power Supply -
ACPM" pane.
3. Right click on any ACRI_BCB-xxx and select ’Edit power timers’.
The "Modify Base Station Power Time Values" window opens.

Inhibit Power Down Timer

4. Enter for power down timer ’0’ for all ACRI_BCB-xxx modules

5. Click on [ OK ] to save the new values.

Output Power Test

This task is to check the output power for a

specific time slot or all time slots of an

9100/9110/9110-E TRE.

1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to


the Output Power Test task.

The "Output Power Test" window is displayed, as


shown in the following figure.

2.The ’TRE Selection’ and ’Frequency Selection’


fields become inactive

during the test initialization.

The [ Stop ] button becomes active when the


power test is running.
3. Click on [ Stop ] to terminate the power test
(the test does not stop automatically).

VSWR Measurement

1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the VSWR measurement


task.
The "VSWR Measurement" window is displayed.

VSWR Measurement

To perfrorm the VSWR measurement from the "BTS Commissioning" window:

1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the VSWR measurement task.

The "VSWR Measurement" window is displayed.

2. Choose the Measurement Parameters:

ANX Device:

UT_ANX**

where ** = ANx position

Frequency: See Site Specific Information (Section 1.3.2) for allowed frequency.

Output power attenuation: 0 dB

Measuring Period: 10 s

VSWR Measurement
Start the VSWR measurement:

1. Click on [ Start ].

2. Wait for the Success message in the status window.

3. Click on [ Stop ].

4. Wait for the Success message.

Perform the following operations ONLY if the measured value is correct


(VSWR1<=1.3).

If the Measured Value is Correct (VSWR1<=1.3):

1. Choose the VSWR Threshold Alarm Definition for both fields (Port A and Port
B), if available:

2. Click on [ Confirm thresholds ] to update the RI.
Perform the following optional task if VSWR1 > 1.3:

Measure the VSWR at the Transmit Link Output (VSWR2 Value).

1. Connect a 50 Ohms load to the end of the antenna jumper.


2. Measure the VSWR2 with the BTS NEM in the same way as in No
Antennas
3. Analyze the results (refer to the following table).
4. Do the same for all the ANX modules!
5. Close the "VSWR Measurement" window:
Click on [ Close ].

Fan Test

1. Click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the Fan Test task


The "Fan Test" window is displayed, as shown in the following figure.

Fan Test

2. Select a row (stage) of fans which speed shall


be varied.
3. Select the speed at which the selected fans
are to be tested.
4. Click on [ Start ] to start the fan test. The
test result of all fans will be indicated in the
graphical display. A report also gives the test
results (with other test results) when performing
’End of Commissioning’.
5. Click on [ Close ] to terminate the fan test.
6. Select as Done the Fan Test task.

Write Inventar

1. At the BTS NEM, in the "BTS Commissioning" window


click on [ Start ] button corresponding to the Write
Inventar task.
Default file name and file location are displayed.
2. Enter a new file name and file location if requested.
3. Click on [ OK ] to save the file.
If the file was saved successfully the Write Inventar
... success
message is displayed in the ’Commissioning State’ area
of the "BTS Commissioning" window.
4. Select as Done the Write Inventar task.

End of Commissioning

1. At the BTS NEM, in the "BTS Commissioning" window click on [ End


Commissionining ]. The "Stop Commissioning" window opens.

2. Select all the ’Available Modules’ from the list on the left to enter them
in the ’Selected Modules’ list.

3. Click on [ >> ] or [ > ] for all the modules on the left (if any).

4. Click on [ OK ].

The update is finished when the "Stop Commissioning" window is closed.

5. Close the "BTS Commissioning" window.

SUM Board Configuration

1. At BTS NEM main window select:

Configuration -> Transmission Settings...


-> Sum Board Configuration
The "SUM Board Configuration " window is
displayed. Wait until the current
configuration is displayed.

Set Position and Signalling Rate for OML
1. At BTS NEM main window select:
Configuration -> Transmission Settings... -> OMU Mapping
The "SUM Board Configuration - OMU Mapping" window is displayed.
Wait
until the current configuration is displayed.
2. Enable the BTS interface
3. Enter the timeslot to be used for signaling.
4. Select the signaling rate.
5. Enter the nibble number, if 16 kBit rate is used for signaling
6. Click on [ OK ] to save the settiings.
The update is confirmed by the Transmission Settings ... success
message in the BTS NEM main window.

Connect BSC

Connect the BTS to the BSC:

1. Connect the BTS to the BSC.

For Indoor BTS: Disconnect the loops between the transmit and receive terminal
blocks at the DDF side.

For Outdoor BTS:Check if the PCM cable (the link from the BSC) is connected on
the Abis connector on the COAR/OUTC board .Connect the SUMP cable (carrying
the Abis) link from the COAR/OUTC board to the ABIS connector on the SUM/SUMA
board.

2. Check the link. Check that there are no PCM alarms (wait a few seconds for
the connection

Before checking) by selecting:

Configuration -> Transmission Settings... -> SUM Board Fault Table

3. Check the OML state. On the SUM/SUMA board, check that the OML LED is

ON (indicating that the OML is IT).

TRE Replacement

To remove a faulty TGTx module:

1. Connect the BTS NEM to the SUM board in the BTS.

2. From the BTS NEM Online Mode menu, follow the menu path:

Configuration -> Hardware Settings... -> Start HW Modification

3. If this is the last TGTx of the sector, use the BTS NEM to disable BTS_TEL.

Enter a WTC = 3 minutes to ensure an orderly shutdown of the BTS. Wait three minutes
before continuing to the next step.If this is not the last TGTx of the sector, go directly to the
next step.

4. Dissable the TGTx.

5. Connect the anti-static wrist strap.

6. Disconnect all the cables from the front panel of the TRE, carefully noting their
positions for reconnection.

7. Loosen the quarter-turn Camloc fasteners on the front panel of the TRE.

8. Loosen the M3 Torx screw on the front panel of the faulty RIT in the subrack, if
equipped.

9. Unplug faulty TGTx module

10. From the Online Mode menu bar, select:

Configuration -> Hardware Settings... -> Remove HW

The "Remove Hardware" window is displayed. Only modules in the state SOS, FOS, or OPR
are displayed.

11. Select the module to be removed.

12. Click on [ OK ].

The text pane on the bottom of the window displays: <module name> successfully
removed. In the SBL Module States window, the module is removed.

13. Close the [ Remove Hardware ] window.

14. Insert the new TGTx module

TRE Replacement
15. Tighten the quarter-turn Camloc fasteners on the front panel of the TGTx.

16. Tighten the M3 Torx screw on the front panel of the RIT in the subrack, if
loosen for RIT removal.

17. Re-connect all the cables from the front panel of the TRE, as noticed in step 6.

18. To inform the OMU of the HW Modification, from the Online Mode menu bar,
select:

Commands/Cmds -> End Modification of HW Config

If Twin TREs are equipped the "TWIN TRE Mode Configuration" window opens.

19. Set the Twin TRE mode and click on [ Save ].

If the TGTx software is not available in the OMU, the OMU request the software from
the BSC and start the download. This may take several minutes.

TRE Replacement

20. The BTS Monitoring window opens with the following dialog box:

"Please check configuration of BTS in Modules Monitoring Window. Do you accept


this configuration and start HW audit now? If Yes wait for completion of HW audit to
see final result! Yes/No"

21. Click on [ Yes ].

Wait for the Hardware and Alarm Audit at the OMC-R to finish or for or for HW-
RESYNCH message in BTS NEM alarms window. This may take several minutes.

22. At BTS NEM, select the Tree View.

23. In the Tree View select "Remote Inventory".

24. In the "Remote Inventory" window double click on the line for the
replacement TRE.

The "Modify Remote Inventory - TRE-xx" window opens.

TRE Replacement
25. In the "Manufacturing" pane, update the remote inventory with the following

information:

Network identity

Logical site name

Commissioning (installation) date.

26. Select the ’Apply RI Changes’ option.

27. In the "Modify Remote Inventory - TRE-xx" window click on[ OK ] to save

the changes.

28. Using the BTS NEM, check that there are no remaining alarms on the

BTS, and that all SBLs are in traffic.


29. Stop the BTS NEM.

30. Disconnect the BTS NEM.

Hardware Settings

You can extend or reduce the hardware configuration by adding or deleting


modules.

Start HW Modification

To start the hardware modification:


1. From BTS NEM main window follow the menupath:
Configuration -> HW Settings ... -> Start HW Modification

2. Now proceed to Add HW or Remove HW.

To add new hardware:

1. Physically insert the new module into the BTS cabinet.

2. To supervise that the new modules are supported by the BSC, at BTS NEM in
the tree view select Hardware Modules.

To remove hardware:

1. From BTS NEM main window follow the


menupath:

Configuration -> HW Settings ... -> Remove

2. Select the module(s) to be removed in the "Removable modules" window.

3. Use the [ >> ] or [ > ] keys to move the modules in the "To be removed
modules" window.
4. Click on [ OK ].

The text pane on the bottom of the window displays:

Remove Hardware... success. In the "Hardware Modules" window, the module state
is set to NEQ.

Hardware Settings
Stop HW Modification
To finish the HW configuration modification:
1. To inform the OMU of the HW Modification, from BTS NEM main
window follow the menupath:
Configuration -> HW Settings ... -> End HW Modification
The window shown in the following figure is displayed.

2. The "End Hardware Modification" window opens.


3. Click on [ Yes ].
Wait for the completion of the hardware audit to see the final result.
