I shot our opening sequence using a Canon 5D with various optimal lenses: a Prime, Zoom and wide
angle lens. Utilising the resources we had and using this camera ensured our opening sequence was
shot in the best quality and in high definition. The reason why the quality of the camera is so important
is due to the fact that audiences enjoy and are engaged a lot more if the opening sequence connotes
professionalism, credibility and well-qualified. Also, with the help of different types of lenses enabled us
to get the right shot for the right scene. For example: the point-of-view (subjective filming) shot when
the antagonist was throwing his punches we required a prime lens in order for the footage not to
become blurred due to the sudden movement. This allowed the audience to really feel the punch (due
to the clear-cut quality) in a sense and empathise with the protagonist. Regarding this theme of
empathy and the audiences connection, it links in with Rick Altmans Genre theory because it
represents syntactic elements like the emotional theme of empathy. Therefore, the usefulness of
utilising an extremely high-quality camera enables the demographic to relate and form a bond between
themselves and the protagonist. As a result, we have learned that with the use of professional
equipment gives us an amazing finish. This is why high-quality camera are a popular choice for
filmmakers and people in general.
As mentioned above, the strengths of using a top camera are significant. However, there are some
weaknesses that come parallel. Theses types of cameras are very expensive and if youre working with
a micro-budget; cameras like this one arent the most efficient and will consequently affect the cost of
the movie.

ED ITING S OFTWARE F INA L C UT EXPRESS & IM OVIE

During the editing process we used final cut express (provided by the school) to
edit and amend our opening sequence. This editing programme allowed us to
incorporate a variety of transitions in order to help and guide the flow of the
narrative. The implementation of transitions and effects are a popular choice for
editors as it ensures the structure of the storyline includes conventional elements.
An example of a conventional transition I used was the cross-dissolve which
enabled the build-up of the atmosphere for the target audience pursue. It achieves
this by adding a sense of realism into the narrative due to the fact that it engages
the demographic. Also, an example of an effect we used is the slow-motion aspect
which was to build-up the atmos even more. This post production element
incorporated really does grab the audiences attention as it offers an alternate
reality to everyday life. This is done through the slow-down of the build-up and
does indeed make it more impactful. In turn, this links in with Maslows Hierarchy
of needs because in a sense it ties in with the safety element. The safety element
of security and stability is achieved due to the fact that it offers an alternative
perspective on everyday life. This results in the target audience feeling safe from
their own life and problems.
Although using and including special effects and transitions is good regarding the
audience and the flow of the film; in actual fact it is extremely time consuming.
Editing for some people- is a tedious task whereby people rush it and the overall
execution of it isnt up to scratch. However, this doesnt stop professional
filmmakers because if done right as an astonishing outcome. That is what we have
learnt through out this stage of the process.

Furthermore, as well as using final cut express, as a group

we also decided to use iMovie as it could provide us with the
right tools to create our title and ending sequence for our
opening sequence. The title sequence was significant to get
right as it was the first thing the active audience
experienced. The power of the motivational speech
enhanced the overall impact of the opening sequence and
was therefore crucial to execute accordingly. This form of
technology is useful and we have learned a lot about how to
construct our opening sequence effectively through the use
of editing. Reason for this is because it aids the build-up of
atmosphere for the target audience.
The advantage regarding not only editing soft wares in
general but iMovie in particular is a quirky editing site that
enabled us to use the animation we desired in order to meet
audience needs. For example: the visuals had to be simple
yet professional in order to enhance the target audience
sense of hearing and really experience our motivational
speech that related to our opening sequence.
However, because this type of editing software is userfriendly it limited our perspective of what we wanted for the
super-imposed graphics.

USE OF BLOGGER

Blogging is an efficient way of communicating your thought process to your

target audience. The brains behind the production. This form of technology
has helped me and my group become clear of all are ideas and how we are
going to communicate through different channels, like the production
stage, editing stage, post production process and the use of social media
etc. We have learnt that in order to create a master piece it requires
vigorous hours of planning, practicing and producing. Without multiple
plans such as, our contingency plan, we wouldnt have what we have today
in terms of our opening sequence. Blogging is in fact a popular choice for
film makers and people in general because they allow a continuous update
on how things are going and is, if you think about it, a new platform for
marketing strategies. Blogging allows free brand / idea awareness due to
the fact that it does inform the public and is an easy tool to access.
Blogging is a form of mainstream appeal and in some cases does meet the
expectations of the demographic because through the use of multiplatforms marketing (including blogging) will engage the audience a lot
more. Also, blogging will encourage the audience to perform word of mouth
as they could relate due to the fact that blogs are personal.
However, there are a couple of crucial weaknesses to all this; taking into
consideration the time and effort it requires, is it all that worth it? And for
start-up institutions, would audiences actually read it unless you were a
global media franchise already?

By utilising the social media platform this enables

us to really spread the message of our opening
sequence and possibly attract publicity. Social
media has the potential to turn our video into a viral
opening sequence. This can be achieved through
various marketing channels and communications,
such as: word of mouth, advertising, print, PR,
digital etc. Ultimately, raise awareness for the
product or brand. This is why people in general and
film makers use social media.
Although, there is one weakness to all of this; social
media can work both ways in terms of feedback. You
may receive negative comments and criticism.

USE OF SCRIBD

Scribd is a good way of implementing new formats.

And allows you to expand your knowledge of
technologies. We have learnt that this technology is
useful due to the process of enabled embedding.
