Research Study
BHAGALPUR CLUSTERS
Objectives
Primary objective:
To study the present scenario of Bhagalpur Handloom and its
weavers.
Secondary Objective:
To find ways to rejuvenate the Bhagalpur Handloom cluster.
Research Methodology
RESEARCH DESIGN:
A descriptive research design will be more suitable.
Survey method was used for data collection.
A survey was conducted in the areas confined for handloom in
Bhagalpur.
Census was conducted by us visiting every house in the area
covered which had a working or non- working handloom.
SAMPLING :
Sampling Technique Used: Convenience sampling
Sampling Units Available: Handloom weavers
Sample size: 459
RESEARCH TOOL:
The research tool that was used is questionnaire.
Questionnaire was designed in English language but explained to the weavers in local language.
LIMITATIONS
The questionnaire could not be administered to the entire population because of the
limitation of time.
Sample size of 459 to represent the entire manpower strength is not a very
significant sample of the entire population.
Some respondents misinterpreted the questions, omitted essential items, and gave
answers casually, which could not be tabulated.
Despite taking sufficient care that the views of one person was only obtained
uninfluenced by the discussions of others and questions rested on the person's
knowledge, still a source of bias occurred at the want of spontaneous responses.

Recommendations
Recommendations
A warehouse maintained by the government for procurement of raw material
at subsidised rate.
A common weaving facility canter with all the amenities for proper working
condition.
Local market where they can sell their products directly to customers
without the interference of the agents and the anti-social elements. This will
change their thinking process and then only they will involve their children in
the same field.
They also need to be motivated to not leave the art and not send their
children somewhere else for employment because this is their heritage and
them leaving it will kill the craft form completely
Proper Education and awareness about family planning, healthy living and
other ways of balanced living
Thank You
