Easter: Annual Religious Feast Jesus Was Resurrected From The Dead On The Third Day After His Crucifixion
Easter is the most important annual religious feast in the Christian liturgical year. According to Christian scripture, Jesus was resurrected from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. The chronology of his death and resurrection is variously interpreted to be between AD 26 and AD 36. Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar.
The First Council of Nicaea (325) established the date of Easter as the first Sunday after the full moon (the Paschal Full Moon) following the vernal equinox. Ecclesiastically, the equinox is reckoned to be on March 21 (regardless of the astronomically correct date), and the "Full Moon" is not necessarily the astronomically correct date. The date of Easter therefore varies between March 22 and April 25.
The New Testament teaches that the resurrection of Jesus, which Easter celebrates, is a foundation of the Christian faith. The resurrection established Jesus as the powerful son of God and is cited as proof that God will judge the world in morality. God has given Christians "a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead". Christians, through faith in the working of God are spiritually resurrected with Jesus so that they may walk in a new way of life.
Easter also marks the end of Lent, a season of fasting, prayer, and penance.
After the lent, tables are full with all sorts of good dishes and brightened up with beautiful coloured eggs; all these create a festive atmosphere.
When it's the time for Easter season, one starts visualizing the glimpses of various symbols of Easter. The most common Easter symbols are: 1. EASTER EGGS:
5. EASTER CANDLES:
The cross is a symbol that reminds us of the sacrifice that Jesus had made for the mankind. On the Easter day, the cross is beautified with fresh white lilies.
Easter candles, especially the Paschal candles are lighted on the Easter day. These Easter candles represent the light of God.
Easter flower, Lily signifies purity and therefore it is also associated with mother Mary. To glorify the resurrection of Lord Jesus, the churches are beautified with flower vases stocked with gorgeous white lilies.
The Butterfly is one of the significant symbols of Easter. Its whole life cycle is meant to symbolize the life of Jesus Christ. The first stage, is the caterpillar, which stands for His life on Earth. Second phase begins from the cocoon stage, portraying the crucifixion and burial of Jesus. The third and final stage is the butterfly, representing His raising from the dead in a glorified body and peace.
