The stem-and-leaf plot below represent the waiting times (in minutes) of 15 customers in the
checkout line during a busy hour.

QUESTION 2

A researcher is interested to determine whether there's a significant difference in the average


height of tomato plants between the two fertilizer groups. The data were analyzed using SPSS
and the following outputs were obtained.

a) Determine whether the variances of the height of tomato plants between the two groups
are equal. Use α = 0.05.

b) Show that the standard error difference for this study is 0.7948.
(3 marks)

c) Construct a 90% confidence interval for the above study.

d) Based on the values in c) is the researcher claims’ is true? Give a reason to support
your answer.

QUESTION 3

There is a growing concern about the increasing rates of childhood obesity in Ipoh. Therefore,
the local health authorities are keen to conduct a study to have better understand this issue
and to develop effective interventions. They obtained information of the children such as
gender, weight, height, body mass index (BMI), socioeconomic status (SES) as well as
physical activity level (Low, Moderate and High). To carry out the study, the local health
authorities will select a random sample of 500 childrens from five Klinik Kesihatan
proportionately.

In a preliminary study to determine whether the installation of a camera designed to catch cars
that go through red lights affects the number of violators, the number of red-light runners was
recorded for each day of the week before and after the camera was installed. The data were
