Sea Turtles: Ocean Travelers

Sea turtles are long-lived animals that spend most of their lives in oceans, migrating over long

distances. There are several species of sea turtles, each with a slightly different lifestyle and habitat.

These turtles are known for their remarkable migrations, which can cover hundreds or even

thousands of kilometers. Young turtles return to the same beaches where they hatched, proving

their navigational abilities and spatial memory.

Sea turtles primarily feed on marine plants, and some species also consume crustaceans and

jellyfish. Their role in the marine ecosystem is essential, as they control the population of certain

organisms, impacting the entire ecosystem. Unfortunately, sea turtles face numerous threats,

including ocean pollution, plastic waste, accidental capture in fishing nets, and climate change.

Many organizations are working to protect sea turtles through reintroduction programs,

establishing reserves, and raising awareness about the dangers affecting these beautiful and unique

animals. Protecting sea turtles is crucial for the health of marine ecosystems and biodiversity

preservation.
