1 Overview

Before installing the UMC2 web system, you need to learn about its networking, running
environments and installation precautions.

1.1 Glossary

This section introduces the terms involved in network schemes.

Table 1-1 Glossary

Term Description
Hardware, a computer running a server program. It can refer to a physical or
Server virtual server.
Software, i.e., the UMC2 server or web server program

Client Software, i.e., the UMC2 client program

Server running services related to the UMC2 or UMC2 web system. In distributed
Node
deployment, it can refer to a master or slave node.

1.2 Network Scheme

The UMC2 web system allows centralized or distributed deployment. This section details
these two schemes and their application scenarios.

1.2.1 Centralized Networking

Centralized deployment of the UMC2 web system requires only one server that runs all
UMC2 web services. Such server can be a physical or virtual machine.

Centralized networking is recommended when a server serves a small network and carries
fewer loads.

basic services, third-party services, network traffic tool, PON services, WebSwing and
MongoDB.

u The UMC2 server, if based on the microservice architecture, is installed with a registry
center. So you can skip installing a registry center when installing the UMC 2 web
server.

1.2.2 Distributed Networking

Distributed deployment of the UMC2 web system requires multiple servers that run all
UMC2 web services. Such servers can be physical or virtual machines.

Distributed networking is recommended when a network is large and imposes excessive

loads.

1.4 Precautions

This section introduces the precautions for installation and commissioning.

u Correct installation packages are obtained.

u Hardware and software configurations of the server concerned meet the requirements
for running environments.

u A static IP address is assigned for the UMC2 web server.

u You have logged into the UMC2 web server as an administrator.

u A UPS is used to avoid loss of network management data due to accidental power
failure.

u A server is installed with only one UMC2 web system.

6 Version: A/02
1 Overview

u The computer case, UPS and switch (or hub) are connected to protection earth ground.

u To avoid program conflicts, an operating system incompatible with the UMC 2 web
system must not be installed.

u The UMC2 web server is installed in an operating system in simplified Chinese or

English. Other languages are not supported.

u The UMC² web server is not used for access to Internet. Doing so may increase data
flow in the network card and hence affects transmission of network management data.

u Protocol settings, computer name and LAN settings of the UMC² web server are not
modified. Doing so may result in malfunction of the network management system.

u You have exited the UMC² web system and the operating system before powering off
the UMC² web server.
