Abstract
This research aimed to gather data on the perceived effects of modular distance
learning in Academic performances of Previous grade 9 students during School Year 2021-
2022 in Batasan Hills National High school, Moreover, to determine the factors affecting the
academic performance of the students in using the modular distance learning in terms of well-
In this research, the researchers use a non-random sampling method in selecting the
respondents. Only the selected respondents are chosen to answer the survey questionnaire
through the use of the provided google form. The researchers chose the previous Grade 9
students in Batasan Hills National High School who took the modular learning class because
they have firsthand knowledge and experience. Described how modular learning affects their
academic performance. This study was conducted in Batasan Hills National High School
during the school year 2022-2023 involving the previous grade 9 students in academic year
2021-2022.
Based on the gathered data, most of the responses of the respondents are all about the
negative effects. First, 47.8% of the respondents feel pressured while answering modules
while 8.3% did not feel any pressure. Second, 39.1% of the respondents did not fully
understand the topic and found it hard to answer modules while 30.4% had a full
understanding in their module. Third, 39.1% of the respondents answered that their
environment around them was not helpful enough while during their module. Fourth, 47.8%
of the respondents feel stressed every time they are doing their module. And lastly, 43.5% of
the respondents answered that their grades in modular learning were lower than their grades
in face-to-face learning.

Based on the findings of the study, the respondents influence the academic
performance of students using modular learning in terms of, first in well-being. Most of the
respondents feel pressured and stressed while doing their module. Second, time-management.
Majority of the respondents finished and passed their module activities in less than one (1)
week. And lastly the environment, most of the respondents said that their environment did not
help them learn while they were doing their modules. Also, most of the respondents (23
respondents) did not want to continue modular distance learning because of these following
grounds. First, because they face difficulty in understanding the module alone and they need
the help of their teacher. Students have different learning capacities. Some are fast learners
and some are slow learners, some can easily understand the lesson through reading and some
can easily understand the lesson through listening. As per respondents, they need the
explanation or the discussion of the teacher first before answering their module. Second, they
feel pressured and stressed every time they answer their modules. For them, modular learning
Based on the result of the study, the following recommendations are hereby offered
by the researcher. For Students, they need to be supported and well educated in doing their
modules because doing it alone without a support system can affect their well-being that can
result in poor time-management and later on their academic performance will be on edge.
For Parents, they should help their children to answer the module in a conducive and stress-
free environment so that their children will not feel pressured in doing their modules. For
Teachers, they must be encouraged to modify the modules to the best interest of their
students as students are different in learning capacity and monitor the students while doing
their modules with the help of parents. For Future researchers, this will allow the
researcher in the future to understand more about the modular distance learning and also the
factors that affect the academic performance of the students and also determine what are the
iii
interventions that can be used to help the students understand more about the content of the
module.
