The Benefits of 3R For Our Environment
Standing over here, I would like to give my greatest thanks to Allah the Almighty, who
has been giving me and you all Mercies and Blessings without stopping days to days, hours to
hours, even seconds to seconds.
Without those all, we will never be here to listen to my short but important speech. Then,
Sholawat be to Muhammad SAW, our messenger who has given us many teachings to live in this
world and hereafter.
On this special occasion, allow me, Nathasya Cherryn Anastasia Siswoyo, to say a word
or two about the benefits of 3 R (recycle, reduce, and reuse) for our beloved environment.
Environment is a place where living things live in this world. In addition human life
cannot be separated from its environment. Therefore, we must keep our environment so that we
can live comfortably in it. As we know, the environmental conditions that we live in today are
very different from the environment several decades ago. In the past, we could easily find trees,
but now the land containing plants has been replaced with housing and industrial companies. To
preserve the environment, we must maintain cleanliness because cleanliness is a reflection of a
healthy environment. Keeping the environment can be started from small things like applying 3
R (reduce, reuse, recycle).
The three R’s are the foundations of environmental stewardship. Reduce reuse recycle
has environmental benefits such as lowering greenhouse gas emissions, conserving natural
resources, saving energy, lowering pollution, and protecting wildlife by reducing the amount of
plastic in the environment. The benefits of reduce, reuse, and recycle improve eco-friendly
practices. Practicing the three R’s helps with conservation of energy and resources as well as
landfill diversion. Let’s take a look at each in more detail.
First, reduce. It means reducing the consumption of unnecessary things. Simply put,
reducing means producing less waste, consuming less and consciously avoiding products with
unnecessary packaging. Reducing is the most effective of the three R’s. Here are some tips to
help you reduce your waste:
Second, reuse. This is when we repurpose things for a “second life”, like turning glass
food jars into pen holders or old clothes into dust rags. “Can this be reused?” This is a great
question to ask before throwing something in the garbage or the recycling bin. What’s old to you
might be new to someone else. On the same note, you might be able to find something you need
at a second hand store. When we reuse each other’s goods we save them from going to the
landfill and we save energy and resources that would otherwise go to making new products. Here
are some tips to help you reuse items:
Use refillable containers (like Tupperware or reusable mugs) and rechargeable batteries.
Wash and reuse plastic food storage bags and heavy aluminum.
We can give away old clothes to the needy people.
We can also reuse cardboard boxes, wrapping papers, and chocolate boxes.
It is better to use cloth bags in place of plastic bags for shopping.
Third, recycle. When we recycle, we give material a new life and save it from going to
the landfill. Materials like glass, plastic, aluminum, and paper can be mass collected, broken or
melted down, and made into entirely new products. Recycling is considered to be the most
effective method to preserve our earth's environment secure. By simply reusing the material
instead of discarding them, we can reduce the number of waste materials and also conserve
future natural resources. In this way, landfill trash will be reduced to save water and air from
pollution. Solid waste recycling provides adequate benefits to the environment and health, apart
from generating economic benefits.
That’s all I can say today. Thank you very much for your attention. I am sorry if I have
mistakes during my speech. Wassalamualaikum Wr. Wb.
