PROCEDURE FOR VACUUM TESTING
DOC NO : LSI/VT/001/REV.0 DT 23.05.2019
A. TEST OBJECTIVE:
The Test Objective is to verify the leak tightness and the strength of Expansion joints
at the specified vacuum and Duration at ambient / room temperature.
B. TEST REQUIREMENT:
2. The Pressure Gauge(s) being used shall be calibrated with the availability of up to date Calibration Certifi-
cate for review
1. The test fixture has a bottom stationary plate and top sliding plate. Both top and bottom plates are connected
by restraining rods with Nuts & Lock Nuts. The top plate shall have outlet vent connections and the Bottom
plates have inlet vent connections.
2. The Expansion Joint will placed on the bottom plate with sponge rubber seal between the Pipe of the
Expansion Joint and bottom plate. A similar sponge rubber seal will be placed between the Pipe of the
Expansion Joint and top plate as shown in Sketch – (Page No : 3 of 4)
3. The Expansion Joint, if required will be incorporated with temporary restraints to prevent the axial
compression and to get the required sealing between the Pipes and fixture plates.
4. The top plate will be brought close to the Expansion Joint, the Nuts/Lock Nuts in the Restraining Rods will
be tightened to get the required sealing.
5. Vacuum will be created and maintained as per the drawing / QAP requirement.
D. ACCEPTANCE NORM:
Bellows surface and Weld Joint between the Bellows and Pipes should be hold during the vacuum test duration
With out leakage or No drop in vacuum..
E. REPORTING:
Observation and result will be recorded in the test report. The typical format of Report is as per the annexure.
