ORATIONS/AWARDS/RECOGNITION
Indian Medical Association is the only representative, national voluntary organisation of Doctors of Modern Scientific System
of Medicine, which looks after the interest of doctors as well as the well-being of the community at large. The founding fathers
Wayback in 1928, while struggling for liberation of the Motherland from British rule simultaneously felt the need for a national
organisation of the medical profession. Before that, some members of the profession- a selected few - were members of the
British Medical Association, which had opened branches in India to cater to the local needs. These stalwarts, ultimately
succeeded in formation of Indian Medical Association and reached an agreement with the British Medical Association that
they will have no branch in India, and got mutually affiliated, which relationship continues till today. Indian Medical
Association in the year 1946 helped in the organisation of the World body, namely, World Medical Association, and thus
became its founder member. As an organization, it has been and continues to play an important role in its deliberations. It
hosted the III World Conference on Medical Education under the joint auspices of W.M.A. and I.M.A. in New Delhi in 1966.
Today, I.M.A. is a well-established organisation with it's Headquarters in Delhi and State / Terr. Branches in 34 States and
Union Territories. It has over 3,30,000 doctors as its members through more than 1750 local branches spread all over the
country. The aim of the association is to promote and advance medical and allied sciences in all their different branches and
to promote the improvement of public health and medical education in India. In addition, the objective includes maintaining
honour and dignity and to uphold the interest of the medical profession and promoting co-operation amongst the members
thereof. I have been the recipient of more than half a dozen awards/orations by the IMA.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES
In addition to his clinical and research accomplishments, I have been contributed widely to the growth of awareness about
hypertension, Nephrology in India and globally. I have been contributed as investigator for MMM (May Measurement Month)
for Blood Pressure monitoring initiated by International Society of Hypertension. The emerging evidence has suggested that kidney
disease is a major public health threat. I have done exemplary work in Community Nephrology. I am working as Chief Co-ordinator
of ‘World Kidney Day’ being held in Delhi for the last 15 years. I started weekly special outpatient nephrology clinic and every year
celebrated the day at my Institution to help people prevent progression of kidney disease and also inform them to take precautions
for a healthy life. I have been involved in educational websites “kidney education foundation, Gujarat” to raise the awareness about
kidney diseases in the society and educate kidney patients and their family. These websites provide access to read and print kidney
guide in different languages completely free. I have edited books, namely “Save your Kidney” (Punjabi version) and Know Your
Kidney (Hindi & English) to educate the people at large about kidney care across all boundaries. I have also participated in
educational programs related to Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) like Diabetes, hypertension and CKD on Broadcast national
media such as Doordarshan (television) and Radio. I have been regularly invited as speaker at various international and national
seminars, conferences and has delivered more than 300 lectures.
• Organizing Health awareness camps every year
• Chief Organizer for World Kidney Day for the year 2006 - present
• Organized Kidney disease Detection Camps
• Conducted epidemiological studies for prevalence of CKD in community.
• Recently initiated epidemiological study funded by Indian Council of Medical Research for screening of chronic kidney
disease among auto-rickshaw drivers in Delhi NCR with emphasis on air pollution.
• Actively doing volunteer work in the nephrology at various charity clinics in the city for more than a decade.
