Film/Movie Studio

A film studio often refers to an entertainment company that has the creative components of a
production company as well as the privately-owned facilities used to shoot films. A film studio can also
simply mean the specially-equipped building in which movies are shot, regardless of whether it is part of
a larger all-encompassing media company.Studios are entertainment empires that create and distribute
movies, television, run theme parks, and have recording and publishing enterprises. The elements of a
film studio include: Sound stages and back-lots. Cameras, lights, costumes, etc in warehouses.

The Structure of a Film/Video building

Typically, the room dimensions should not be smaller than 12 feet x 18 feet. So, there should be a
minimum of four feet between the subject and the camera. Also, add another four feet between the
background and the subject. Remember, shooting close to a wall isn’t ideal because doing so can create
harsh shadows. That lovely bokeh effect (heavily blurred background with perfect focus on the subject)
always looks excellent on camera, but you must determine the spacing is proper to make it.

Origin of a Movie Studio

Film studios emerged in the early 20th century, when the film industry was dominated by a few
companies that controlled the production, distribution, and exhibition of films. These companies, known
as the "Big Five" (Paramount, MGM, Warner Bros, RKO, and Fox) and the "Little Three" (Universal,
Columbia, and United Artists), formed a system that gave them a monopoly over the film market and
the creative output of filmmakers. The studios owned or leased their own facilities, equipment, talent,
and theaters, and dictated the genres, styles, and stars of their films.

Importance of a Film/Video studio

2
A studio environment is perfect for making professional, high-quality videos. Also, live video is becoming
a primary tool for businesses. A movie studio creates and seeks quality movie content then invests in
producing that content into a film. Though a movie studio may need to enlist the help of other entities
to make the film, it owns the rights and will earn any profit gained from the film's distribution.
Additionally, they oversee the creative and technical aspects of production, hiring or contracting
filmmakers, actors, writers, editors, composers, and other crew members. They also design and
implement promotional strategies for their films by creating and distributing trailers, posters, ads, and
press releases.

Maintenance of a Film/Video studio

Like a car, the videography equipment requires routine maintenance in order to ensure it continues
functioning at the highest level. This maintenance actvities are:

* AVOID MOISTURE

* UTILIZE DRY STORAGE

* REMOVE DUST

* CLEAN YOUR SENSOR

* MAINTAIN YOUR LENSES

Management of a Film/Video studio

Film production management is the process of planning every stage of the production process, ensuring
that the film delivers good financial returns at minimum cost. The film studio management is usually
done in stages. Which are

Planning stage

At the beginning of the planning stage, the studio may issue a creative brief to the film production team.
This document outlines the film's target audience, genre, budget, key plot points and production
deadlines.

Pre-production stage

The pre-production stage involves creating the physical, financial and creative infrastructure required to
start shooting the film. The first step in this process is to draft script breakdown documents. These files
determine the cast, camera equipment, makeup artists, costumes and sets required to film certain
scenes.

Production stage

In the production stage, film crews travel between shooting locations to record each scene, using their
visual storyboards to determine stage direction and camera angles.

3
Post-production stage

The post-production stage involves refining the filmed scenes to create a finished and marketable
product. In this situation, you can use a film management system to detail the editing, accreditation and
marketing tasks required to prepare the film for release in cinemas. Editing tasks can include adding
sound effects and music to certain scenes, mastering audio or altering the video's definition. Film editors
may also backup these edits on external files to avoid losing this work.

Delivery stage

The delivery stage covers the film's release for public viewing. Here you could use a film management
system to plan logistical tasks involved in delivering films to viewers, such as sending encrypted copies
to cinemas or agreeing on screening times.
