4. Find the area of the sector of a circle of radius 5 cm, if the corresponding arc

8. The central angles of two sectors of circle of radii 7 cm and 21 cm are respectively
120° and 40°. Find the areas or two sectors as well as the lengths of the
corresponding arcs. What do you observe?

Solution:- Let the lengths of the corresponding arc be l1 and l2

Given that, radius of sector PO1QP=7cm
And radius of sector AO2BA=21cm
And central angle of the sector PO1QP=120°
And central angle of the sector AO2BA=40∘
Area of the sector with central angle O1
𝜋𝑟 2 𝜋(7)2
= ×𝜃 = × 120°
360° 360°
22 7×7
= × × 120
7 360°
22×7 154
= = 𝑐𝑚2
3 3

and area of the sector with central angle O2

𝜋𝑟 2 𝜋(21)2 22 21×21
= ×𝜃 = × 40° = × × 40°
360° 360° 7 360°
22×3×21
= = 22 × 7 = 154 𝑐𝑚2
9
GYAANI KEEDA bhattdeepak454 https://t.me/gyannikeedamaths
Now, corresponding arc length of the sector PO1QP =central angle × Radius of the
sector
𝜋 𝑙 𝜋
= 120° × 7 × [𝜃 = 𝑎𝑛𝑑 1° = 𝑅]
180° 𝑟 180°
2 22 44
= ×7× = 𝑐𝑚
3 7 3

Now, corresponding arc length of the sector AO2BA =central angle × Radius of the
sector
𝜋 𝑙 𝜋
= 40° × 21 × [𝜃 = 𝑎𝑛𝑑 1° = 𝑅]
180° 𝑟 180°
2 22 2 44
= × 21 × = × 22 = 𝑐𝑚
9 7 3 3

Hence, we observe that arc lengths of two sectors of two different circles may be
equal but their area need not be equal.
9. Find the difference of the areas of two segments of a circle formed by a chord of
length 5 cm subtending an angle of 90° at the centre.
10. Find the difference of the areas of a sector of angle 120° and its corresponding
major sector of circle of radius 21 cm.
Solution:- Given that, radius of the circle (r) = 21 cm and central angle of the sector
AOBA (θ)=120∘
22 22
So, area of the circle = 𝜋𝑟 2 = × (21)2 = × 21 × 21
7 7

= 22 × 3 × 21 = 1386 𝑐𝑚2
Now, area of the minor sector AOBA with central angle 120∘
𝜋𝑟 2 22 21×21
= ×𝜃 = × × 120
360° 7 360°
22×3×21
= = 22 × 21 = 462𝑐𝑚2
3

Area of the major sector ABOA

= Area of the circle – Area of the sector AOBA=1386-462 cm2
=Difference of the areas of a sector AOBA and its corresponding major sector ABOA
=Area of major sector ABOA-Area of minor sector AOBA
=924-462=462 cm2
