Lesson 1

Position,
Distance,
Direction and
Time
MOTION
Refers to the movement of an object. It moves
when it changes its location or position. Motion is
relative, which means that we describe any moving
object with regard to a certain reference point.
Examples of good reference points are stationary
or non-moving objects such as trees or street
When the position of an
object is changing it is
moving or in MOTION.
How do you The girl is at
describe
the position the right side
of a girl? of the boy
POSITION
A place where someone or
something is found or located.
DISTANCE
It is the measure of the space
between two objects or places.
It is the length of path
traveled by a moving object.
What did the children
use to measure the
distance?
DIRECTION
It is the course where an
object moves into.
Describe the pictures below

What are the indicators of Motion?

How does the
athlete move in a
running track?

What path does he

follow?
How does the girl
spin in the skating
rink?

What path does she

follow?
Things may move in
straight lines

Things may move in

circles
Things move in
different direction

movement of yoyo?
Things may move up or down

Things may move

over,under,above or below

Some things move side to side. They

move to the right or to the left
TIME
The duration of an object’s
motion measured in seconds,
minutes, or hours.
Remember:

We can describe the position of an

object by comparing it to the position
of other things and by measuring its
distance from a reference point.
Remember:
A change in position shows movement
Things move in different directions
Lesson 2

What Makes an Object move?

What makes a toy
car move?

The boy
push the
car to
move it
Human can push things to make them move
And can also pull things to make them move
What are the other things you can
PUSH or PULL to make them move?
● You need to pull the door to open it
and push to close it

● If you want to transfer the table

from one place to another ,you
need to push or pull it
MAGNETS
MAGNETS
● Can pull or attract some things

● Can push or repel some things

WIND
● When the wind blows strongly ,it can makes somethings
move. Blowing is a push and therefore is a FORCE.

● Wind can make objects move

● It exerts force that causes an object to move

WATER
Water exerts a force that causes the objects to move

Water can makes objects move

How can you make toy boats move across
the water?
You can make toy boats move faster

Light objects like leaves ,empty

bottles,wrappers ,plastic bags,paper and
other things can be moved by water

Things can be moved by

people,magnets,wind & Water

Lesson 3

Effects of
Forces on an
Object
What makes the object moves?

● Many things move. Their movements

may be slow like the snail or as fast as
the racing car.

● Objects move in different ways

depending on the force acting on
them.
MOvements may be...

forward
backward
stretched
compressed
Changes in motion will not just
happen without exerting force.

If the force is applied to

two objects with
different mass, the
smaller the objects
moves faster than the
big object.
Some big objects
move slowly
because of their
heavyweight and
light force.
Remember:
Remember:

● Some objects may ,move forward or

backward when you push or pull them.
● They can also move fast if they are light
objects and you push them with a
greater force.
Objects can also
be stretched and
compressed to
change their
position and sizes.
Fast and Slow Motion
Motion is all about forces and forces need to
act upon an object to get moving.

Now, Push it just a

little
● Observe its motion
● Did it move fast? ● Observe its motion
● Did it move
faster of slower?
Fast and Slow Motion
An object will move fast only if the force
applied to it is greater than its mass

An object will move slow if the force

applied to its less
Moving Forward or Backward
Pushing will make an object move forward and
pulling will make it move backward

A push or a
pull will open it
Moving Forward or Backward
Pushing will make an object move forward
and pulling will make it move backward
Moving Forward or Backward
Can you give other
objects that we push
or pull to make them
move?
Stretching and Compressing
Pushing and pulling an
object may not only make
it move forward or
backward. They may also
make some objects
change the size.
Stretching and Compressing

A rubber band stretches when you pull it

Stretching and Compressing
Stretching may make some objects
longer or wider

Pulling or stretching the rubber

band causes it to increase in size
