Field strengths from fixed RF transmitters, as determined by
an electromagnetic site survey1, should be less than the
compliance level in each frequency range2.
Interference may occur in the vicinity of devices with the
following symbol:

REMARKS: At 80 MHz and 800 MHz the higher frequency range applies.
These guidelines may no apply in all situations, as the propagation of electromagnetic waves is affected by absorption and
reflexion from buildings, objects and people.
1 = The field strength of fixed transmitters (e.g. base stations for radio telephones, land mobile radios, amateur radio, radio broadcast and
TV broadcast, ...), cannot be predicted theoretically with accuracy. To assess the EMC environment due to fixed transmitters an
electromagnetic site survey should be conducted. If the measured field strength in the location in which the product is used exceeds
the applicable compliance level above, the product should be observed to verify normal operation.
If abnormal performance is observed, additional measures may be required, such as reorienting or relocating the product.
2 = Over the frequency range between 150 kHz and 80 MHz the field strength should be below 3 V/m.

The recommended separation distances between portable and mobile HF telecommunication devices and
devices which are not life--supporting
The product is intended for use in an electromagnetic environment with HF disturbances are controlled.
The user can help prevent electromagnetic interference by maintaining a minimum distance between portable and mobile
HF telecommunications equipment and the product.

The device is not protected against explosions.
Explosion hazard!
Do not operate this device in areas where there is a danger of explo-
sion.
CAUTION!
Device may fail due to automatic temperature cut- out.
Insufficient air supply can trigger the temperature protection curcuit
and shut down the device during use.
Devices with forced cooling (e.g. fan) should be kept at a minimum
distance of 15 cm from walls and the vent slots/louvers must not be
covered or closed at any time.
To prevent possible accumulation of heat in closed system trolleys,
place the devices in such a way that the heat can be dissipated
and/or create ventilation wholes.

. NOTE!
As a result of the intended use of the product, its degree of protection
against the ingression of liquids is IP 20.
To prevent liquid from being drawn into the ventilation system of the light
projector, do not place any products or items from which liquids can be
spilled above the projector.

. NOTE!
Check that the mains/line voltage is the same as the voltage specified on
the identification plate. Connect the device only with the supplied power
cable or a power cable meeting the same specifications.
CAUTION!
Danger of faults and malfunctions.
To guarantee the safety of the user, the patient and others use only
accessories and spare parts specified by the manufacturer of this
product.
Other accessories or spare parts can cause the emission of
increased electromagnetic radiation or reduced immunity against
interference.

. IMPORTANT!
Medical devices are subject to special precautions with regard to electro-
magnetic compatibility (EMC).
Make sure you observe the notes on EMC for installation and operation.
Medical electrical devices can be influenced by mobile HF communication
devices.
If it is necessary to stack the devices or place them next to each other
and HF interference is observed, make sure you observe the intended
use of the devices.

3.1 Installing the xenon lamp

. NOTE!
Please keep the original packaging material.
Danger of explosion due to pressurized xenon lamp. Always use the origi-
nal packaging material for shipping the xenon lamp.
For installation of xenon lamp see 7.6.

GA--A 206 7
3.2 Selecting the light connection socket
The light projector is provided with a selector wheel (3) having 4 connec-
tion sockets to also connect light cables of other manufacturers. Turn the
required light socket with the corresponding manufacturer’s code for the
light cable to the 9 o’clock position (C).

Manufacturer’s code

W = WOLF

3
S = STORZ

C O = OLYMPUS

A = ACMI

3.3 Preparation of video mode

. NOTE!
To achieve optimum light transmission, the diameter of the fiber core of
the endoscope and the light cable must be the same. If the diameter of
the cable is too large, the coupling point with the endoscope may become
too hot. If the diameter of the cable is too small, this will reduce light effi-
ciency.

. IMPORTANT!
In combinations with a camera with auto shutter, the light projector should
not be operated at maximum intensity. Set the nominal value to medium
intensity. This will reduce thermal stress on the coupling points, i.e. the
light cable and the endoscope, and thus reduce the probability of damage
to a minimum.
The camera controls the brightness. An encreased nominal value should
only be selected if the light output of the projector due to aging of the
lamp or extreme light requirements really make a higher setting necces-
sary.

5 Use

5.1 Operating principle

The light projector provides high--energy light which is fed to the endo-
scope via a light cable.
Independent of brightness control the color temperature of the xenon light
source is approx. 6000 K. This feature is important for true colors, in par-
ticular for video imaging. Optimum ventilation and observing the operat-
ing instructions for the lamps will result in a lamp service life of 500 h
(replacement interval).

5.2 Control elements / modes

5.2.1 Manual brightness control

2
Nominal brightness can be adjusted with the control knob (2) (ring around
the light connector).
' Brightness is not automatically readjusted with changing object dis-
tances.

5.3 Temperature protection circuit

Blocked ventilation wholes in the rear panel, a defective fan or insufficient
circulation of air may cause the temperature in the light projector to in-
crease.
The temperature protection circuit monitors the temperature inside the
device. It shuts down the light projector if neccessary to prevent further
damage.

GA--A 206 11
5.4 Operation of the light projector
WARNING!
Fire hazard.
Do not place the light exit area of the light cable or the endoscope
on heat absorbing surfaces (such as dark drapes, etc.) as this may
lead to inadmissibly high temperatures or even ignition.
Switch off the light projector if you do not need it for some time.

CAUTION!
Accumulation of heat due to high light energy.
Insufficient distance between the light exit area of the light cable or
endoscope and tissue can cause coagulation of the tissue.
During endoscopy avoid direct contact between light exit area and
tissue.

5.4.1 Switching the xenon lamp on and off

CAUTION!
Danger of dazzling.
Do not look into the open end of the light cable when the light cable
is connected.

Z Switching on the light projector with the power switch.

' The LED in the power switch must light up.
' The xenon lamp must be lit and the fans running.

. NOTE!
If the xenon lamp does not ignite immediately, the ignition circuit will trig-
ger further attempts to ignite the lamp. If the xenon lamp still won’t ignite,
allow the device to cool down and repeat the procedure.

. IMPORTANT!
After switching off wait at least three minutes to allow the projector to cool
down sufficiently before you switch on again. Repeated switching on and
off will reduce the service life of the xenon lamp considerably.

Z Switching off the power switch.

' The Xenon lamp will go out and the fans will be switched off.

5.4.2 Lamp service life

To guarantee safe lamp operation, replace the xenon lamp at least once
a year if the projector is used regularly.
This should be done within the scope of the service intervals as described
under 6.2.1.
