Safety Instructions

2. Safety Instructions
Intended Application

The measuring system with connected mechanical components is intended

solely for weigh tasks and related control applications. Use for any other
purpose is considered to be unintended use.

Sources of Risk
If the measuring system has been correctly installed and commissioned, it does
not pose any danger during weigh operations.
Hazards may arise when the system is used for control operations or for
transporting weighed goods. Potential hazards may then arise from e.g.
additional devices through which the weighed goods are passed or metered.
Minor risks may arise in these situations if the measuring system is used or
operated by untrained personnel.
The measuring system may be used as one component integrated into a more
complex system. The system operating company is fully responsible for the
operating safety of the system.

Identifying Residual Hazards

This symbol identifies potential hazards that could lead to injury or even death
in extreme cases.

This symbol identifies potential hazards that could result in damage to the
measuring system or other system components.

Personnel
Preparation, assembly, commissioning, operation, maintenance and servicing
may only be carried out by qualified personnel.
All persons who use the measuring system in any way must know and observe
the safety instructions and those sections of the operating manual relevant to
them.
It is the responsibility of the operating company to oblige the operating
personnel to comply with all regulations and instructions as they appear in the
operating manual.

Safety Instructions

Changing Parameters

Parameters determine the mode of operation of the measuring system. Only

personnel familiar with the device’s mode of operation may alter these
parameters (e.g. after training by Schenck Process). Incorrectly set parameters
may cause injury or material damage. Furthermore they may also cause
considerable disruption to weigh operations.

Password
Passwords safeguard the parameters against unauthorized alteration. The
measuring system operating copmpany must ensure that the password is
handled responsibly.
Acknowledging fault messages

Fault messages may only be acknowledged after the cause of the fault has
been rectified.
Ensure that any connected peripheral devices are functioning correctly before
acknowledging a fault message. Any connected control systems in particular
must be in safe state.

Maintenance and Service

All warning and instruction signs on the scales must be observed.

The measuring system must be shut down before work is performed on
mechanical equipment or peripheral devices (control systems in particular).
Steps must be taken to ensure the measuring system cannot be started
inadvertently.
Before performing work on the electrical equipment, disconnect the power
supply (pull the plug!).

Moisture and Humidity

All scales parts, electrical components in particular, must be protected from

moisture and humidity when the housing is opened for e.g. maintenance and
service. In other respects the protection classes of the housing must be
observed.

Design Modifications

Unauthorized modifications to the system and/or use of replacement parts not

supplied by Schenck Process voids Schenck Process’s liability for any resulting
damages. This especially applies to alterations which could affect the operating
safety of the measuring system.

Replacing Parts

Only use original Schenck Process replacement parts for repair. The use of
other spare parts will void the warranty.

5.3.Switching Unit Sealing (Protection Class) Connections

5.3. Switching Unit Sealing (Protection Class)

Schenck Process switching units guarantee a high degree of protection against
water and dust. The protection class of the switching unit is fundamental to
observing the building regulations for explosion hazard areas if the device is to
be used in a dust-explosion hazard area.
The following must be observed in order to safeguard the high protection class:
n The clamping range of cable screwed-joints must be adhered to. In non-ha-
zardous areas the sealing ring can be replaced while screwed joints appro-
ved for hazardous-area use must be replaced entirely.
n Sealing plugs must be fully pressed into unoccupied cable screwed-joints.
This is done by removing the clamping nut and press the plug into the joint
until it is flush with the outer edge. Then replace and tighten the clamping
nut.

At critical spots, i.e. in the wet and dirty area underneath a vehicle scales,
unsoiled silicone grease should be applied to the cover seal and to the sea-
ling rings on the cable feedthroughs.

Options 6.1.Calibration Memory Modules

6. Options
6.1. Calibration Memory Modules
VMM 20450
The calibration memory modules can be used for calibratable memory storage
as a substitute for an alibi printer or for external calibratable memory.

The VMM 20450 consists of a USB flash memory module with a 128 MB
capacity. It can store 3 million typical weighing results and can be exchanged if
required.

6.1.1. Installing Calibration Memory

The memory modules in the DISOMAT can be upgraded at any time. There are
not secured against removal. The device automatically recognizes that a
memory module has been removed and will display an error message at the
next attempt to save data to the module. Changing the module does not affect
the DISOMAT’s operation.

Plug the module into one of the USB ports XUSB1...XUSB4.

System Manual DISOMAT Tersus BV-H2334GB, 0730 23

© Schenck Process
6.1.Calibration Memory Modules Options

Organization of Data

The data on the calibration memory module cannot be manipulated and cannot
be read out with standard tools. The module can be scanned and the stored
data read out with the DISOMAT. The following search criteria can be used:

n Date/Time
n Sequential number
n Designation (left-aligned)

The individual data sets are simply stored sequentially in the calibration
memory. The structure of the memory module is that of a ring-buffer, i.e., once
full, the data set to have been written first will be overwritten. First a check is
performed to see if the data set to be overwritten has reached a preselected
minimum age. If it doesn’t, the data set is preserved and the device registers an
error message. In this case the memory module should be exchanged.

Each individual data set contains the following values:

n Date / time
n Sequential number
n Gross
n Tare
n Scale status
n Formatting information (increment value, dimension...)
n Additional, user-defined information

The DISOMAT can be used to, among other things, display the fill degree of
the calibration memory (after the first complete writing this is close to 100%)
and the date of the oldest register-day by pressing the “Test” button.

Options 6.2.Remote Keyboard (Optional)

6.2. Remote Keyboard (Optional)

A PC keyboard (VTT 207xx) may be used to enter data more comfortably.

The remote keyboard labelling is the same as on the fixed DISOMAT keyboard.
This allows a remote keyboard to be operated in the same manner as the fixed
keyboard. The entry ofα/n characters is considerably easier on the remote
keyboard.
IP65 membrane keyboards are labeled directly on the keys.

6.3.Fieldbus Interfaces Options

6.3. Fieldbus Interfaces

6.3.1. General Information

A process control system in the system controller communicates with the

DISOMAT via fieldbus.

All fieldbus interfaces are cards which have been inserted into the mainboard.

Certain fieldbus systems may have some restrictions, such as length of cable
and bus termination. Please refer to the technical specifications of the bus
system used for further details. To provide the optimum EMC interference
safety we recommend that those cables specified by the individual fieldbuses
be used.

A list of auxiliary equipment for the fieldbuses can be found in the chapter
“Supplied Parts and Replacement Parts”.

6.3.2. Installing a Fieldbus Interface

Figure 15: Mounting a fieldbus plug-in card

26 BV-H2334GB, 0802 System Manual DISOMAT Tersus

© Schenck Process
Options 6.3.Fieldbus Interfaces

Mount the fieldbus card as follows:

n Physically disconnect the DISOMAT from the power supply.
n Open the housing.
n Insert the spacer bolts onto the mainboard. The bolts are contained in the
circuit board assembly kit.
n Please note: If the bus cards are fitted with configuration jumpers, these
should be set before the card is installed (for purposes of accessability).
n Plug the fieldbus card ribbon cable into the XFB connector on the mainbo-
ard and secure it with three screws. It can be secured more effectively by
using the hexagon head bolts supplied in the assembly kit rather than ordi-
nary Philips screws. This allows them to be tightened with a hexagon span-
ner.
n If both an analog I/O VEA card and a fieldbus card are to be installed at the
same time, the fieldbus card should be located above the VEA.
n Stick the identification plate from the assembly kit beside the type plate on
the DISOMAT.
n Close up the device.

6.5. Analog connector module VEA 0450

A VEA 0450 expands the DISOMAT by two analog inputs and outputs.
Both inputs and outputs each have a common zero conductor, i.e. they are
directly coupled to each other. The two groups are indirectly coupled from each
other and from the rest of the system.
The bolts supplied in the assembly kit are used to secure the VEA to the
fastening nuts on the mainboard. The ribbon cable is connected to the XEA
plug and the card is fastened with screws (see photo).
Both a VEA and a VSS021 or a fieldbus card may be installed at the same
time, in which case the VEA is installed below.

Options 6.6.I/O Expansion Module:

6.6. I/O Expansion Module:

If the quantity of internal I/Os proves to be insufficient, the DISOMAT B plus
can be expanded by using an external I/O module. This is a module to be
installed outside the DISOMAT on a top hat rail. A field housing for the a high
protection class is available for the module.

Functionality:
The modules are conencted to the DISOMAT in series and are supplied
with data via function blocks. A maximum of 3 modules with digital
inputs/outputs, one analog output module and one analog input module
can be connected.
The analog output and the third I/O module exclude each other as they
both use the same address.

Module Overview: (DI: Digital In, DO: Digital Out)

Caution!:
The ICP7067 relay outputs can only withstand a load of up to
120VAC/0.5A!!

The ICP module interface parameters are fixed: RS85, 9600 baud, 8 bit, no
parity, 1 stop bit.

CAUTION, important notice:

Unlike the internal input contacts of the DISOMAT B plus which operate with a
common zero conductor, the ICP modules operate with a common positive
voltage. This is switched to zero to perform an input:

Please use no external circuits to reverse this logic as then the wire-break
safety facility will no longer function, and the signalsin the DISOMAT will no
longer be processed. The entire signal chain is so designed that the device
recognizes a logical HIGH when the switch is activated and a LOW if a wire
breaks.

Under unfavorable conditions it may happen that despite properly connected

ICP modules, communication may malfunction. A bus termination such as the
one shown below can help in this case. This arrangement is recommendable if
an ICP 7014 is used, in which case the passive bus termination no longer
applies.

Options 6.7.Control Terminal

6.7. Control Terminal

Introduction
Two kinds of control terminal may be connected to the DISOMAT.

1. A DT operating terminal, which can be controlled remotely. This is particu-

larly useful if the scales are located in an explosion hazard area (Ex area)
and must be operated in the are.

All dialog functions of the DISOMAT can be called up on the DT terminal.

The DT terminal is a device which has been developed by Schenck and

which is available in two housing variants.
n DT 20420 built-in device
n DT 20430 high-grade steel wall-mounted device.

2. A second DISOMAT Tersus

This Disomat Tersus is an image of the equivalent main device, it is also
called a “mirror”. It is connected by network to the main device and cannot
be used in the explosion hazard area.
Further information can be found in the operating manual chapter 5.3.2.5.
The device used in the explosion hazard area is the “mirror” device
DISOMAT Tersus Ex VKG 20490.

Installation
1. The DISOMAT S1 or S2 interfaces should be used for the DT terminal.
In the non-explosion hazard area the DT operating terminal is connected
and the power supplied according to the terminal connection diagram in
chapter 5. An additional power supply is required. In the explosion hazard
area the power supply is equipped with a protective circuit. Terminal con-
nection diagrams can be found in chapter 7.

The interface must be parameterized as follows:

n Baud rate: 9600
n Handshake: off
n Data: 7 Bit even parity
n Stop bits: 1
n Physically RS 485 4-wire
Notes on the operation of the DT terminal can be found in the operating
manual DISOMAT (BV-H2335).

2. A DISOMAT Tersus as a second “mirror” terminal should also be connected

to either the S1 or S2 interfaces (RS 485, 2-wire necessary).
As with the main device, this “mirror” DISOMAT is also available in the same
housing variants and with the same power supply options. The devices are
connected according to the terminal connection plan shown in fig.4.
Information on parameterizing the interfaces can also be found in the opera-
ting manual in chapter
3) Details for connecting a VKG 20490 can be found in chapter 7.

7. Explosion Hazard Area Protective Circuits

The explosion hazard area protective circuit consists of plug-in z-barriers
located on a carrier module with 6 slots. This carrier module only needs to be
connected to the on-site potential equalization once. Each individual z-barrier
has en exchangeable pre-fuse. If the fuse is tripped it may be replaced with a
new one of the same rating. The z-barrier must be removed from the carrier
module to exchange the fuse.

7.1.9. Safety Instructions

1) The explosion protection circuits should be installed outside

the explosion hazard area.
2) The explosion protection circuits, including the connecting
components, must be constructed in such a way that at least
IP20 is achieved.
3) The protective circuit earth conductor should be connected
with the earth conductor within the explosion hazard area via
a voltage equalizing cable, which serves to equalize the po-
tential (minimum cross-section 2.5mm)2 Cu).
4) The device must be operated in an undamaged and proper
condition.
5) Repairs which affect the explosion protection in any way may
only be carried out by qualified personnel in compliance with
national standards! Exchangeable safety fuses may only be
replaced by original fuses of the same rating.
6) All national safety and accident prevention regulations must
be observed when working on the device.
7) The observation window of devices which have been tested
with a lower impact energy must be located in a safe area.

7.1.10. Supply Voltage in an Explosion Hazard Area

The series resistance of the safety barriers determines the supply voltage for
load cells and displays in explosion hazard areas, the value of which is lower
than the voltage supplied by the DISOMAT. If the load cells are to be supplied
then the value is dependent on the cumulative impedance and thus on the
number of load cells to be supplied.
The following table is intended to assist the setting up of the scales:

Load Cell Supply Table UWZeff: [V]

Number Ri = 4000 Ohm Ri = 1000 Ohm Ri = 350 Ohm

( RT) (Flintec)
1 11.5 10.6 8.5
2 11.0 9.5 6.5
3 10.6 8.6 5.3
4 10.2 7.8 5.0
6 9.5 6.7 3.4
8 8.8 5.8 2.7

The table can also be used as a troubleshooting guide. If the scales are not
producing the expected results or if the weight values are unstable, an
inspection of the load cell voltage supply could help.
Caution:
Load cells must be supplied with synchronized AC voltage. To measure the
voltage, use either a suitable instrument (such as an oscilloscope) or halt the
voltage synchronization at the device.
DT(A) 204..E supply voltages should be at least 12V. This value can also be
used to monitor the wiring in case of any malfunction.
The signal voltage per increment value

d
DUd = ULCeff ? WZ Cara ?
Lmax-LC ? NLC

must be greater than the minimum DISOMAT signal voltage

∆ Ud,min = 0.5µV

DISOBOX VME 204x0A/D converter unit

8. DISOBOX VME 204x0A/D converter unit

The DISOBOX is an on-site analog-digital converter unit for the DISOMAT. Its
installation in close proximity to the scales allows the measuring signal to be
transmitted securely to the DISOMAT. A further advantage of this arrangement
is that each load cell signal is registered individually. This facilitates not only
calibration (‘digital corner balance’) but also allows monitoring of the individual
measuring sensors during operation.

Figure 38 shows the DISOBOX dimensions and the position of the connecting
terminals.

Figure 33:

Housing height: 90mm

Distance between securing screws 240mm x 110mm,
Securing screws are supplied.

1: Supply voltage
2: Serial interface
3: Binary I/O
4: NAMUR inputs, analog input, binary inputs 3 and 4

Voltage supply and the serial interfaces are generally led through a common
cable through screw connection A.
Inputs are distributed over screw connections B and C as needed.
D is reserved for field bus connections.

Instructions for operating the DISOPLAN

9. Instructions for operating the DISOPLAN

The DISOPLAN PC program is available for conveniently configuring and
parametering the DISOMAT family scales

The instruments that can be interfaced now are:

– DISOMAT Opus
– DISOMAT Satus
– DISOBOX
– DISOMAT Tersus

Acceptable operating systems are:

n WINDOWS XP
n WINDOWS 2000
n WINDOWS Vista

You can do the following with DISOPLAN:

n Assign subscriber addresses to the serial bus
n Configure interfaced instruments
n Displaying the scale weights and operating the scale
n Display group and channel weights and their status (only with DISOBOX )
n Edit the language files and load into DISOMAT
n Read out the entire system configuration (back-up) and store in the PC
n Load stored data into a DISOMAT (restore) for fast substitute system
set-up.

NOTE:
Access to the DISOPLAN functions is administered via license levels. They
range from the standard operator to the instrument developer. This is the
reason why some of the functions shown in this manual may not be visible or
accessible in other installations.

DISOPLAN installation is self-explanatory.

You can connect DISOPLAN at any time if the interface is not occupied by
other systems. You have to turn the system on and off if the interface is
otherwise occupied (for instance, with a secondary display) and you can start
set-up operation with DISOPLAN within the first minute after turning it on. Turn
DISOPLAN on and off after ending it and its resumes normal operation after
one minute.

You can activate set-up operation in menu item 5C Start DISOPLAN at any
time if the system has a display and keyboard.

All systems can also be configured via Ethernet (the VET 020 option card has
to be installed on DISOBOX). This allows access to the system at any time, but
the configuration of the PC used has to allow access to the system’s network
address.

Instructions for operating the DISOPLAN 9.11.Editing language

You can use ‘Information’ to call up data on the oldest / most recent memory
input and its assignment. Then you can read the data into a new file or attach it
to an existing file. We recommend attaching files especially with greater
amounts of data since reading out a full legal-for trade memory can take
several hours.

The data are filed in a text file and they can be opened with data processing
programs or also be imported into Excel.

9.11. Editing language

You can not only load prepared language files into DISOMAT as described
above. You can also change them and create new languages. (The
Settings/Edit Language menu item).

9.12. Control unit

You can start a window in the Display/Operating Station item that maps
DISOMAT’s entire display. This allows you to operate the instrument via the
built-in keyboard. This function is especially useful when DISOPLAN is
operated via modem or network and the instrument is not in view.
