1. INTRODUCTION
The following is the Method Statement for erection of tower crane number two at Tubafa Cement project.
Type of Tower crane is SIMMA POTAIN GT185
This outline method statement is intended to demonstrate our ability to provide approach to carry out all the
operations in a systematic manner with the necessary degree of quality and safety as per the respective
quality and safety plans of this project.
The following work execution plan explains the methodologies to be used in the implementation and execution
of the works and follows the sequence of activities scheduled in the construction programme.
2. SCOPE OF WORKS
The scope of work contains the erection and installation of tower crane number two.
A plan view of the geometry to be installed tower crane inclusive of northings and easting’s of corner
locations will be indicated in attachment drawing. The drawings for plan and sections will indicate location
of tower crane.
3. MOBILIZATION AND SITE ESTABLISHMENT
Site mobilization will initially involve surveys of the designated work areas, the establishment of
coordination points taken from benchmarks on site. Reference pegs will be installed to help the surveyor
marking and control the elevation.
All of equipment shall be standby prior to erection work

4.2. WORK SEQUENCE
Before the erection work starts, the contractor has to evaluate the experience of the personnel who
will carry out the work. He also has to check the required equipment, the material and updating of the
project drawing.
The process of erection has to be as continuous as possible in order to prevent loss of time or
inadequate utilization of the machines.
Step of tower crane erection:

1. Setting rail anchor prior to casting of foundation
In order to set tower crane railway properly into concrete foundation, following component are
necessary:
 Anchor bolt
 Template
The template must be symmetrically set into concrete with regards to the axes of the
concrete block and form a square according mast to be fitted. The position of mast section
shall as per indicated coordinate and parallel to the building floor line.

2. Placing The Bogies on to the rail
3. Assembling of Base Telescoping Elements

Assembling of base telescoping elements, vertical struts, and telescoping to be done ca 8
days after the concrete foundation has been poured.
The assembly sequence as follows:
 Place the base element (2) in the middle of the chassis (1) and mount the strut ties
(3)
 Place the vertical struts (4) at the four corner and fix them at the top end of the base
element, lift it in order to make coincide the lower holes of the struts with those of
angles
 Connect the two antitorsion bars (5) and place the telescoping beam (6) onto the
lower tappets of the base element
 Insert the telescoping element (7), apply the safety brackets (8) on each corner and
bolt them completely
After the assembling, check that the wheels run along the rails regularly without forcing on the
rims, otherwise correct the rail gauge
Mobile crane’s load chart and boom length to be checked versus the minimum requirements
as per this method statement. The position of mobile crane to be more than 7 m from centre
of tower crane, but less than 10 m

4. Lift and place the mast extension
5. Continue assembly the mast section

6. Lift the panoramic cab, if foreseen, and clamp it to the slewing mast frame
7. Install the chassis frame

8. Install Operator Cabin

9. Install Counter Jib
Lift the counter jib with mobile crane and pin it to the slewing mast
10. Install Front Jib

Assemble the whole jib on the ground. Arrange it along the track with the jib foot at about 2m
from the chassis with the tie bar mounted.
Erect the whole jib (5.5 Ton) with 45 ton mobile crane

11. Electricity provision
12. Check on implementation including non-overriding warning sign

13. Install end stopped on the rail track
14. Install earthing system to the crane rail
15. Test loading at tip
Loading test necessary to be done before tower crane operate, this testing including check
the load indicator at cabin
16. Government Permit (Depnaker Permit)
5. HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT
In addition to the standard health, safety & environment precautions and measures, the excavation
works have several potential safety hazards as described in the attached Job Safety Analysis.
The general requirements as per this project’s Safety plan are applicable.
Particular attention needs to be given to the work at height area.
All staff is responsible in ensuring all parties are adhering to health, safety & environment standards. If
any unsafe or unhealthy condition is encountered, any staff member has the authority to halt the works
and report to the safety officer.
