MATH 12 (Solid Mensuration)

Module 1
I. Module Title: Basic Concepts in Geometry - Mensuration of Plane Figures

II. Overview
Introduction
In this lesson, students are expected to review the basic concepts in geometry and compute
for the area and perimeter of plane figures.

III. Learning Unit: Mensuration of Plane Figures

A. Learning Plan
Intended Learning Outcomes
At the end of the lesson, the students must have:
1. computed for the area of plane figures.

Time Allotment
Week 1

Resource Material
Activity sheets, Worksheets, Textbooks

Teaching and Learning Activities

During the start of each week, a face-to-face session (half of the class every session) will be
conducted to give preliminary instructions and leveling. Concepts will also be provided through power
point presentation and discussed.
Students will be provided with activity sheets and worksheets to continue working at home.
Another face-to-face session will be scheduled and provide summative test to assess the progress
of the students.

Content/Concept
Formula for the Area of Plane Figures
1
• Triangle: 𝐴 = 𝑏ℎ
2
• Square: 𝐴 = 𝑠2
• Rectangle: 𝐴 = 𝑙𝑤
1
• Trapezoid: 𝐴 = (𝑏1 + 𝑏2 )ℎ
2
1
• Rhombus: 𝐴 = (𝑑1 ∙ 𝑑2 )
2
• Circle: 𝐴 = 𝜋𝑟 2

Formative/Summative Assessment
1. What is the area of a triangle whose base measures 10 cm and height of 15 cm?
2. What is the area of a square whose side measures 9 in?
3. Find the area of a rectangle with length of 12 m and width of 10 m.
4. Find the area of a trapezoid whose bases measures 10 cm and 14 cm, and with a height of 9
cm.
5. What is the area of a rhombus whose diagonals measure 7 ft and 10 ft?
6. Find the area of a circle whose radius is 14 cm?
7. Find the area of the largest circle which can be cut from a square of edge 4 in. What is the area
of the material wasted?
8. A garden plot is to contain 200 sq. ft. If its length is to be twice its width, what should its
dimensions be?
9. Find the length of the diagonal of:
a. a square in terms of its edge a;
b. a rectangle in terms of its base b and its altitude h.
10. Find the area of an equilateral triangle of side a.
