B February 2005 Release for 1.2.1
Safety Information
To the User of This Manual
The user of this manual is directed to read and carefully review the instructions, warnings and cautions contained herein prior to
beginning installation or service activities. While you may have previously installed or serviced equipment similar to that described in this
manual, changes in design, manufacture or procedure may have occurred which significantly affect the present installation or service.

Installation and Environment

Except for installations requiring certification by the manufacturer per federal standards, see that a radiation protection survey is made
by a qualified expert in accordance with NCRP 102, section 7, as revised or replaced in the future. Perform a survey after every change
in equipment, workload, or operating conditions which might significantly increase the probability of persons receiving more than the
maximum permissible dose equivalent.

Diagnostic Imaging Systems - Mechanical-electrical Warning

All of the moveable assemblies and parts of this equipment should be operated with care and routinely inspected in accordance with the
manufacturer’s recommendations contained in the equipment manuals.
Only properly trained and qualified personnel should be permitted access to any internal parts. Live electrical terminals are deadly; be
sure line disconnects are opened and other appropriate precautions are taken before opening access doors, removing enclosure panels,
or attaching accessories.
Do not under any circumstances, remove the flexible high tension cables from the x-ray tube housing or high tension generator and/or the
access covers from the generator until the main and auxiliary power supplies have been disconnected. Failure to comply with the above
may result in serious or fatal bodily injuries to the operator or those in the area.

Electrical-grounding Instructions
The equipment must be grounded to an earth ground by a separate conductor. The neutral side of the line is not to be considered the
earth ground. On equipment provided with a line cord, the equipment must be connected to properly grounded, three-pin receptacle. Do
not use a three-to-two pin adapter.

Diagnostic Imaging Systems - Radiation Warning

X-ray and Gamma-rays are dangerous to both operator and others in the vicinity unless established safe exposure procedures are strictly
observed.
The useful and scattered beams can produce serious or fatal bodily injuries to any persons in the surrounding area if used by an unskilled
operator. Adequate precautions must always be taken to avoid exposure to the useful beam, as well as to leakage radiation from within
the source housing or to scattered radiation resulting from the passage of radiation through matter.
Those authorized to operate, participate in or supervise the operation of the equipment must be thoroughly familiar and comply
completely with the current established safe exposure factors and procedures described in publications, such as: Subchapter J of Title 21
of the Code of Federal Regulations, "Diagnostic X-ray Systems and Their Major Components", and the national council on radiation
protection (NCRP) no. 102, "Medical X-ray And Gamma-ray Protection For Energies Up To 10 Mev-equipment Design and Use", as
revised or replaced in the future.
Those responsible for planning of x-ray and gamma-ray equipment installations must be thoroughly familiar and comply completely with
NCRP no. 49, "Structural Shielding Design and Evaluation For Medical Of X-rays and Gamma-rays of Energies Up to 10 Mev", as revised
and replaced in the future. Failure to observe these warnings may cause serious or fatal bodily injuries to the operator or those in the
area.
Add additional safety information as needed
Only qualified and system trained Philips service staff is allowed to perform service (installation, maintenance, quality assurance) on the
Brilliance CT systems. Make sure that the latest version of the service instructions are available. Read the corresponding instructions
TM

carefully prior to working on the system. For your own safety and for more detailed safety information, refer only to the current version of
the documents.
Use only specified tools and auxiliary materials. After finishing any service activity, ensure that all covers of the Brilliance CT, including
TM

the mylar gasket, are closed

Precautionary Measures Regarding Electrical Voltage

Before you start the procedure outlined in this manual, make sure that you read and understand the warnings listed below.

WARNING PRIOR TO ANY SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES INSIDE COMPONENTS:

SWITCH OFF THE SYSTEM AT THE MAIN POWER SUPPLY, (USING THE ON-SITE ON-OFF SWITCH)
AND THE INTERNAL/EXTERNAL UNINTERRUPTIBLE POWER SUPPLY (UPS).
MAKE SURE THAT NO OTHER PERSON CAN SWITCH ON POWER OR SWITCH OFF THE SECURITY
MEASURES, WHEN INSTALLATION, MAINTENANCE OR SERVICE WORK ON THE SYSTEM IS
PERFORMED.

WARNING IN ADDITION TO THE WARNINGS LISTED ABOVE, MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW ALL SAFETY
GUIDELINES AS DESCRIBED IN THE SAFETY CHAPTER OF THIS MANUAL. FAILURE TO DO SO
CAN RESULT IN SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY.

CAUTION Always use an ESD protection wrist strap when servicing any component in the system.

12 Does the Couch Board have an EIN# on the label? Yes___ No___
NOTE This only applies for the 16 Power. If you are not installing on a 16 Power system, skip this step and
continue with the next step. The EIN# is 2008435, and label may be located on the front or back of the
Couch Control Board.
13 If the Rotor Type Value appeared during Step 2, then continue with Host OS Installation. If the Rotor Type Value did
not appear, then complete Steps 14 - 24:
Step 2 in the Before Installation procedure asked you to record the Rotor Type value. You will use this value during
Host Application installation. If the value did not appear while performing Step 2, you will have to get the rotor casting
number off of the back of the rotor. During Host Application installation you will match this number to a chart in the
installation instructions, which has the correct Rotor Type Value to use. Since getting this value requires powering off
the wall box and opening up the gantry, you may want to perform this procedure before you start the Host OS and
Application Software Installation.
14 Use the following steps to power down all CIRS Servers :
a Open CIRS folder on the Host PC Desktop.
b Double-click on the icon for the server you want to power down (Recon S-1, Recon S-2, Recon S-3).
c Click OK at the security warning.
d Log on as “philips_service”.
e Click OK.
f On the server Desktop, double-click the black Recon icon to launch a command window.
g In the command window, type shutdown –s –f –t 1
h Press the <Enter> key.
NOTE During shutdown, the Remote Desktop connection will automatically disconnect and return you to the
Host desktop.
i Repeat for the other servers in your configuration.
15 Power down the Host.
16 Power down the 480 V wall box.
17 Remove the Gantry Front and Rear Cover.
18 Release the motor brake.

Host OS Installation
NOTE The following procedure must be done on the HOST PC, not the CIRS.
1 Write down the 25-digit Windows XP product key located on top of the Host PC. You will use this in a later step.
2 Unplug the system from the network. This will minimize the chances of getting a virus before the patches are
installed.
3 Remove the EOD from the EOD drive. The system may hang during the installation process if an EOD is in the
drive. Also, make sure there are no USB memory drives plugged.
4 Insert the Host OS CD into the CD/DVD ROM drive of the Host PC. The label on this CD is:
Brilliance_CT_OS_1.2.0.9
5 Restart the system:
a Click Start > Shutdown (or, from the Log on Window click Shutdown).
b On the Shutdown Window, select Restart from the drop-down menu, then click OK.
6 When the Welcome to Philips Medical Systems XP Unattended Install menu appears, press 1 = Begin Installation
to proceed with the installation. This will take approximately 10 min. The system will reboot itself when complete.
NOTE When the Host restarts after the first reboot, you may see the start screen with a message that says it
is looking for the SCSI device and it timed out. This may happen a few times before the system detects
the SCSI Device. If the system does not find the SCSI device, Power off the Host using the power
button on the PC, wait 10 seconds, then press the button again to power on the Host.
The reason for this is that during a warm reboot, the SCSI device (EOD) may not fully dissipate it’s
charge, and fail to reset. A hard Power Off/Power On should reset the device.

7 When prompted, remove the CD from the drive and restart the computer by pressing <Ctrl><Alt><Delete>. The
system will begin setting up Windows, which will take approximately 17 min.
NOTE The computer may restart several times during this process.
NOTE Do not touch the keyboard or mouse until the Set Computer Name window appears. Please ignore any
messages asking you to reboot. The system will reboot automatically.
NOTE While the Windows Setup Wizard installs files, a Message Box appears asking if you want to restart
your computer for the settings to take effect. DO NOT CLICK ON THIS BOX!
8 When prompted to Set Computer Name, enter the computer name and click OK. If the computer name was
recorded previously in Before Installation, then use it.

recorded in Before Installation if applicable.
b Click OK when the IP address was changed successfully message box appears.
11 When prompted to Insert the Product Key, enter the 25-digit Product Key located on top of the Host PC and click
OK.
NOTE Leave the Set Proxy boxes blank.
12 Activate Windows. If the Host PC is connected to the Internet, Windows will attempt to activate automatically once
the Product Key is inserted. If successful, a popup will appear indicating that Windows has been activated. Click OK
and continue to Step 13. Otherwise, continue with this step.
a On the Activate Windows Dialog, select "Yes, I want to telephone a customer service representative to activate
windows" and click Next.
b Select a location for step 1. Once a location is entered, a phone number will appear in step 2 to call.
c Call this phone number and answer the questions given over the phone. You can use the touch-tone pad on the
phone to enter the number. Provide them with the installation ID.
d Type in the confirmation number in the boxes labeled A-G when they are given to you.
e Click the Next button. When instructed to, click the Finish button.
f The system will restart automatically.

The purpose of this document is to detail the procedure for downloading the ACS motion controller with new code. As a
precaution we will save the current ACS programs to a file. If for any reason there is a problem loading the new files,
these saved files can be used to restore the ACS to its previous state. In this case, browse to the "Save Old" folder and
substitute the saved file names for the ones indicated in this procedure.
After successfully saving the files, the unit will then be programmed with the new code. The checksums will then be
verified against the above table.
