A SHAGMAG GUIDE TO SUCCESS
By Julia Rose

Listen up fellas, if you’re riding a bull...

eight seconds may be an ideal time, but
if you’re meeting up with Tricia from Tinder,
you might be looking for something a tad
bit longer. Trust me when I say you aren’t
alone in this journey to learning how to
last longer. It’s time to take some notes,
SHAGMAG is about to give you the keys on
how to unlock the rules of not becoming
a two pump chump:
SHAGMAG 16
THE RIGHT GEAR

FIND THE RIGHT GEAR FOR YOUR GEAR.

There are plenty of products out there
with numbing effects to help lessen
the sensation in order to help you last
longer. Make sure to do your research
prior to using and ask your buddies
if they have any recommendations. I
would highly advise to not use a new
product for the first time right before
hooking up so be sure to test something
out before things get heated.
SHAGMAG 17
ROUND 2

SADDLE UP FOR ROUND 2.

Stamina fellas, that’s the name of the
game. Going another round doesn’t
mean right after, just means later on
in the night. Getting all of the nerves
out in round one, may leave you feeling
more confident heading into round
two. If your little sidekick doesn’t have
the willpower to armor up for another
battle, feel free to get creative with
other ways you can please her.

SHAGMAG 18
FOREPLAY
I’ve said it many, many times...
and I will say it again. The art of
foreplay is one most men still need
to master. Foreplay can be a game
changer when it comes to pleasuring
a woman. Even if you don’t last long
during the actual sex, your hands and
mouth can make up for the lost time.

KEGELS
Kegels are a well known sexercise for
women, but it turns out that men can
also use this secret to their advantage.
Kegel exercises can strengthen the
pelvic floor muscles and help you get
back some sexual stamina. Men can
perform kegels by contracting their
pelvic muscle for 3-5 seconds (think
about what it feels like when you start
peeing and then stop midstream). To
see results, perform three sets of 10
reps, three times a day for a couple
of weeks.

SHAGMAG 19
EDGING
Edging is a skill that requires a
ton of self control. It’s all about
getting yourself to the edge of a
climax and then backing off for
several minutes or seconds and
stopping ejaculation and then
climaxing again. It can be done
on your own or with a partner
and can help you learn how to
control climaxing in order to
prevent cumming too quickly.

this happen?” Right?

It taught me a valuable lesson. If

you’re going to fail, fail fast. So,
one, you don’t lose a lot of money.
And two, more importantly, you
don’t lose a lot of time. Even the
richest man in the world can’t buy
more time. And, as always, take
what you’ve learned from every
loss, and pivot toward a new and
hopefully more successful idea.

Eventually, you’ll hit on the right

formula.

FROM THE
FRIEND ZONE

I L LU S T R AT I O N S B Y K I N E A N D E R S E N
TO THE
END ZONE
By Daniella Soloway

It’s all too often guys hit up SHAGMAG and

ask why they are stuck in the friend zone
(and what they can do about it). We get it.
The friend zone can suck. But, it doesn’t
have to. If you have stronger feelings for
the lucky lady, let’s see what you can do
about it.

Here’s the list of what probably got you

there in the first place. Plus, we’ll dish on
potential ways you may be able to change
your situation.

SHAGMAG 55
SHOOT
YOUR SHOT
Have you ever actually expressed
how you feel to your friend? Have
you even given hints (i.e. tried
something a little more romantic
during one-on-one time together)
to imply that you’re interested in
something more than friendship?
You can buy her flowers, take her to
a fancy date spot and see if she gets
the hint. Or, you can compliment
how pretty she looks when you
next see her. Then, pay attention
to her reaction! Regardless of the

SHE
route you take, honesty is the best
policy, and a conversation can put
you both on the same page.

KNOWS
TOO MUCH
Good friends share a lot of spicy
details. This ain’t her first rodeo,
so if you’ve been dishing the
details about all your hookups or
past relationships, you may have
shown her one too many red flags.
At this point, there’s no reason
to try to convince her otherwise.
Just appreciate what you’ve got
with the friendship and keep on
looking for your special someone
elsewhere.

SHAGMAG 56
STOP
BEING A
PUSSY
If you’ve been good friends with
her for a while, there’s a very real
fear of losing it all. That’s something
that you have to consider before
you make your move. A good way
to know what step to take next
is to weigh the pros and cons
of being more than friends and
staying friends. Consider if you
could go back to being friends if a
relationship didn’t work out. If not,
is it worth losing her altogether?
(Keep in mind that timing has a lot
to do with it all, so some patience
could lead to the situation evolving
organically).
Explicit consent is required before engaging in any sexual activity.

Explicit consent is required before engaging in any sexual activity.

THE BALL
Being in the friend zone can’t just be blamed
on her. It could be that when you first started
talking, you waited too long to make a move.
So, she assumed you weren’t interested in
more and she lined you up as a friend. Did she
ever commit the three-touch rule? If so, she
was trying to tell you she liked you, and you
just missed the cue. The good news is that
if she had initial interest in something more,
that feeling could still be there and you could
try to gauge her temperature. You can do this
by being straight up and asking her. Or, if that
feels too risky, start small with gestures like
cooking for her or taking her to her favorite
restaurant and treating it like a date. Her
reaction could show you where her head is at.

The 2019-20 NBA season will be remembered as the most

unusual in the history of professional basketball. With the loss of
one of the game’s all-time greats in Kobe Bryant back in January
to the suspension of the season in March due to coronavirus,
the NBA is now back underway and gearing up for the playoffs
after a four month hiatus. v NBA teams entered “the bubble” at
Disney World with 16 making their way into the postseason, but
which teams are best poised to raise the Larry O’Brien Trophy
and be named NBA Champions? Let’s take a look.

SHAGMAG 78
THE FOUR FAVORITES
MILWAUKEE BUCKS Giannis Antetokounmpo is the
talk of the league, and when you watch him, you
can understand why. The reigning (and soon to be
two-time) MVP is a physical force that can only
be compared to Shaq or Wilt Chamberlain. He
is a touted elite-level playmaker and defender.
With sharpshooters like Khris Middleton and
Kyle Korver complementing the only notice-
able weakness in Giannis’ game, and versatile
centers in the Lopez twins anchoring the
middle, the Bucks have a near-perfect support-
ing cast for their MVP. One big question mark
for the Bucks is their starting point guard, with
elite defender Eric Bledsoe currently recovering
from COVID-19. But expect to see him back for
the playoffs. All things considered, the Bucks
will live and die by what Giannis can do for
them, and he’ll have to do better than he did
last year when the Raptors took four games in
a row over Milwaukee.

LOS ANGELES LAKERS The Lakers are the most star-

studded team going into the playoffs.
With the superstar duo LeBron James
and Anthony Davis leading the Lake
Show, AD is looking for his first ring
while LeBron is adding to his case
of being as one of the greatest of
all-time. While LeBron’s prolific
style speaks for itself in his 17th
season, the Lakers have some
concerns. The Lakers are miss-
ing some key defensive guards
in Avery Bradley and Rajon Rondo,
but are still spoiled with talent. The
additions of Dion Waiters and J. R.
Smith are the exact type of catch-and-
shoot threats that LeBron has found success
(and won championships) with, and Anthony Davis is a
Swiss Army knife-type player who excels at whatever
is asked of him at either end of the court. Also, don’t
discount the production that Kyle Kuzma offers
the Lakers on both ends of the court, adding to
their roster depth. The Lakers are the number one-
seed in the West, and will be as good of a team as
any going into the playoffs with King James calling
the shots.

SHAGMAG 79
THE FOUR FAVORITES CONT.
TORONTO RAPTORS While the Toronto
Raptors are the defending champions,
a lot of spectators have had a hard time
looking past Kawhi Leonard’s departure.
Despite being without Leonard, head
coach Nick Nurse has transformed the
Raptors, and they once again look like a
contender. Pascal Siakam, the reigning
Most Improved Player, has made another
major leap in his skillset and is now a
bonafide elite scorer who benefits
greatly from Kyle Lowry’s playmaking
mastery. Lowry, one of the most
underrated players in the league, has

two seasons for “load management,”
the four month coronavirus hiatus has
given the whole league time to recover.
This is especially advantageous for
Kawhi Leonard. Besides their high caliber
starters, the Clippers also feature two of
the best bench players in the league with
three-time Sixth Man of the Year Lou Williams
along with budding star Montrezl Harrell.
Arguably the deepest team in the league this
season, the Clippers are eager to get out from
under the Lakers’ shadow in LA, and as such,
they are going to be one of the hardest teams
to bet against COVID-19.

SHAGMAG 80
THE NEXT GROUP UP
DENVER NUGGETS The Nuggets have one
of the best players in the league to watch
in Nikola Jokic. The Joker has some of the
most astonishing playmaking skills and the
fact that he’s a 7 foot center makes him a
matchup nightmare, with Gregg Popovich
recently comparing Jokic to Larry Bird and
Moses Malone. Besides Jokic, the Nuggets’
offense is going to be largely reliant on the
production of Jamal Murray and Michael Porter
Jr., and both players go hot-and-cold in streaks.
With the Nuggets being one of the teams
that has been hit hardest by COVID-19, the
Nuggets’ chances are a complete toss-up, but
they have a big hill to climb against some of the
deeper, more experienced teams in the playoffs.

BOSTON CELTICS After losing Kyrie Irving and Al

Horford in the offseason, the addition of Kemba Walker
has paid dividends for the Celtics. A veteran locker-room
presence who is proficient in anything that’s needed
of him, the playmaking skills of Walker have helped
turn Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum into the stars
they’ve always had the potential of becoming. My main
concerns when it comes to the Celtics are their depth
and their defensive capabilities. I really don’t like the
defensive matchups of Daniel Theis or Enes Kanter on
any of the elite frontcourts in the NBA, but if they can
minimize their defensive deficiencies, the offense will
be there. Brown, Tatum, Walker, and former All-Star
Gordon Hayward can all fill it up, and Marcus Smart is
one of the biggest X-factors for any team that has hopes
of getting to the Finals. At their best, this is a team that
could play spoiler for the Bucks or Raptors.

SHAGMAG 81
THE NEXT GROUP UP CONT.

MIAMI HEAT I don’t see any teams being excited to see the
Heat in the Playoffs. This team is so multi-faceted that I could
truly see them beating any other team if they are firing on
all cylinders. With Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo running
this team, you have two guys who form a scary pick-and-roll
threat, can create their own offense, and give up nothing easily
on the defensive end. Complemented by young three-point
specialists in Tyler Herro and Duncan Robinson, a former
All-Star point guard in Goran Dragic, and one of the brightest
rookies in the league in Kendrick Nunn, the Heat have shown
the defensive capabilities of the Clippers and the offensive
capabilities of the Lakers at different points this season. Keep
an eye on Nunn’s status; however, as he’s recently left the
bubble, and his absence takes a lot away from
the Heat.

HOUSTON ROCKETS
The Rockets are playing a style
of basketball that is entirely unique to
them. Their highly-analytical play that
emphasizes almost entirely threes and
layups has virtually no regard for defense or
rebounding, but it doesn’t change how effective it
can be at its best. The Rockets will live and die by James
Harden and Russell Westbrook, and you can definitely be in
worse positions than relying on two former league MVPs. That
being said, this is the shortest team in the league, and I have a
hard time getting past their design as a team that doesn’t put
a center on the court. A lot of games can be won or lost off of
a rebounding advantage, and the Rockets just aren’t built to
compete with teams like the Lakers or Bucks in that regard.
The Rockets are as dangerous on the offensive end as anyone
when they get rolling, but that defensive end is most likely not
up to task.

SHAGMAG 82
THE UNDERDOGS
UTAH JAZZ The Jazz’s success begins and
ends with Donovan Mitchell and Rudy
Gobert. Mitchell is an offensive maestro
from his guard position and Gobert’s resume
as a defender speaks for itself, with
two Defensive Player of the Year awards
to his name. While those two aren’t really
in doubt, the Jazz are missing their best
shooting threat in Bojan Bogdanović, and
that severely limits Utah’s ability to space the
floor. While the offseason addition of Mike
Conley has allowed Mitchell more time off
the ball, Conley is having a down year, with his
points per game down to 14.4 from 21.1 last
season with the Grizzlies, and his assists per
game at 4.5 from 6.4 last season. The Jazz
have some good pieces, but they don’t have
enough pieces to be in consideration with
the league’s elite.

OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER

Billy Donovan deserves a world of praise
for his job with this iteration of the Thunder.
When Chris Paul arrived in OKC for Russell
Westbrook, the narrative was whether or
not he would even suit up for the Thunder,
given the lack of expectations for the
team. Instead, the Thunder have secured
their playoff spot, have an unexpectedly
high level of chemistry, and have found
their star guard of the future in the
Kentucky product Shai Gilgeous-
Alexander. Much like the Utah Jazz, the
Thunder have pieces, but it doesn’t look like
they have enough pieces. Luckily for the
Thunder, they’re more focused on their
long term outlook, and with the assets
they own from the Clippers and Rockets,
their outlook is as bright as any team in the
league.

SHAGMAG 83
THE UNDERDOGS CONT.
PHILADELPHIA 76ERS The Sixers on-court
chemistry has been like water and oil for
the majority of the season. This can be
accounted for because of the spacing
issues created by the combination
of Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons at
the helm of the team, the additions
of Al Horford and Josh Richardson
failing to propel the team to take
their next step, and the up-and-
down play of Tobias Harris. This
team has been underperforming
since nearly the beginning of the
season. That being said, Philly has
so many quality players that you
can’t entirely count them out from
making a run, but with Ben Simmons
going down with a knee injury, their
chances look as bleak as ever. The loss
of Simmons means that the Sixers will
be without their best playmaker and
someone who can negate some of
the best guards and wing threats
that the other elite teams would
have to offer. Unless something
unforeseen starts to click with the
Sixers soon, this postseason will be a
wash.

DALLAS MAVERICKS One of the best duos

in the league, the international tandem of
Luka Dončić and Kristaps Porzi ņģis is one
of the most unique pairings the NBA has ever
seen. The Mavs get crucial minutes out of Tim
Hardaway Jr. and Seth Curry, both bringing
a shooting prowess that opens things up for
their two stars. While Mark Cuban has to be
happy with his young core, especially with Dončić
on track to become a future league MVP, there
is still a lot of room for the Mavericks to grow
to reach the same level as the Western Confer-
ence elites. The defensive struggles I’ve seen
out of the Mavs as well as their tendency to
fold under-pressure in crunch time leaves it
hard for me to envision a meaningful run for
Dallas, regardless of how good they can be at
their best.

Q&A WITH JULIA ROSE

Q&A
Q: EXAMPLES OF SUBTLE WAYS TO SHOW
INTEREST IN SOMEONE THAT YOU SHOULDN’T
NECESSARILY BE SHOWING INTEREST TO - A
COWORKER, ETC?
- SCOTT

A: Well Scott, the first thing I would do is ask myself if

it would be worth showing interest. Where do you see it
going? It isn’t worth showing interest in my opinion if the
risk isn’t going to bring you a reward. If it is worth it and
you want to make the jump, I would start by being old
school. Little notes here and there, buying them lunch on
break (if you pay she should definitely get the hint), picking
up on her coffee order and grabbing her one on your way
to work. The list is endless, but like I said, make sure you’re
ready to pick up the pieces before you start dropping hints.

Q&A WITH JULIA ROSE

Q: OFTENTIMES WE FALL FOR PROBLEMATIC PEOPLE.

WHY DO YOU SUPPOSE THAT IS?
- ANONYMOUS

A: Honestly, I believe all people are somewhat problematic,

some more than others, but I don’t feel like you will ever find
a person that isn’t packing some sort of baggage. I think
we are drawn to different people for different reasons, so
this is a harder question to answer. But, that being said, it
is important to be patient with people and realize that you
have just as many (if not) more problems as they do.

Q: HOW DO GIRLS FEEL ABOUT GUYS WHO ARE VERY

QUIET IN BED?
- CONNOR

A: Everyone has their sexual preferences. Personally if a

guy is too silent, I will feel like he is not turned on or isn’t
liking what I am doing. I need at least a little bit of feedback
in order to make sure I am pleasing my partner. You don’t
have to over vocalize if you like something but subtle hints
and moans should do just fine.

Q&A WITH JULIA ROSE

Q: WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO APPROACH A GIRL IF

ALL YOU ARE TRYING TO DO IS HOOK UP?
- NICK

A: A question that a lot of men have. I think the easiest answer

to this is what not to do. Do not, I repeat, do not try to lie and
act like you want something more. Be upfront about what your
expectations are. I can’t promise that you will get all positive
feedback, but it’s your best option, because the end result of
you lying will be much worse. Some girls will be down just to
hook up if the ground rules are laid out and expectations are
clear. Remember people are people though and someone is
bound to catch feelings so be respectful of that.

Q: ARE WOMEN MORE ATTRACTED TO A MAN’S

INTELLIGENCE OR BODY?
- MATT S

A: I can’t speak for all girls, obviously... but personally I am

initially really attracted to the body, but being attracted
to the body only lasts so long. If a man cannot hold a
conversation, it’s an immediate turn off. So overall, I would
say a body might capture my attention, but intelligence is
what keeps it.
