• Arms should be straight above the head holding a medicine ball facing the

ceiling
• Lift the head and shoulders off the floor taking the medicine ball towards
the feet (V sit action) by contracting the rectus abdominus
• Return under control to the starting position
• Continue for the desired number of repetitions
Coaching points
• Keep a gap between your chin and your chest
• Keep a slight bend in the elbows
• Keep the abdominals and pelvic floor muscles engaged throughout the
action
Progressions/adaptations/variations
• Increase or decrease the size and weight of the medicine ball
• Keep feet flat on the floor and just concentrate on the upper body
• Release the ball into the air and catch on the way back down to the floor
Purpose
Improve the strength and power in the trunk through rotation
Improve trunk stability
Starting position and instructions
• Sit on your bottom with a slight lean back keeping head in its neutral
position
• Knees should be bent and feet off the floor
• Holding a medicine ball, rotate the trunk so that the ball touches the floor
on either side
• Repeat for the desired number of repetitions

• Keep a gap between the chin and the chest
• Keep the abdominals and pelvic floor muscles engaged throughout the
action
Progressions/adaptations/variations
• Increase or decrease the size or weight of the medicine ball
• Keep feet in contact with the floor
• Standing Russian twist
