II. Focused Learning Competencies (Use Curriculum Guide)

Illustrates polygons: a.) convexity; b.)angles; and c.) sides M7GE-IIIe-2

III. Focused GAD principle/s to be integrated

All learners should practice equality in dealing with people regardless of gender.

IV. Intended Learning Outcomes

Knowledge Differentiate concave and convex polygons.

Skills Illustrate polygons according to their sides and angles.

Attitude Demonstrate determination in performing tasks.

Values Improve one’s mathematical ability by actively participating in the teaching-

learning process.

V. Learning Content/s Polygon means many angles. The polygon is composed of at least three
coplanar points. The segments formed by the points are called sides. The
points are referred to as the vertices of the polygon.
A polygon is convex, if none of its diagonal passes through its exterior,
otherwise the polygon is concave.

1. Engage ROUTINE

1. Prayer
2. Attendance and physical arrangement
3. Recapping
Introductory activity
Let’s play a game called “ duck race ”
The winner of the race will be the one to answer the jumbled word.

Answer:

1. NLYOPOG 1. POLYGON
2. SLAGNE 2. ANGLES
3. DISES 3. SIDES
4. XETREV 4. VERTEX
5. ANGLETRI 5. TRIANGLE
ASK:
1. What are the different words have you arranged?
2. What words are you familiar with? Share your idea to the class.
2. Explore ACTIVITY: TELL ME WHO I AM

Using flash cards, present shapes/drawings that represent a polygon and

not a polygon.
Ask students whether the shapes are polygon or not.
A. B. C.

D. E. F. G.

ASK:
1. Which shapes are polygons ?
2. What makes the other not a polygon? Explain
DISCUSSION PROPER

DEFINING POLYGON

3. Explain These are polygons These are not polygon

What is polygon?

Polygon – is a closed plane figure formed by fitting together segments end to end
with each segment intersecting exactly two others
- Each line segments is called a side of the polygon and each
endpoint where the sides meet is called the vertex of the
polygon.

What are the types of polygons according to their sides and angles?

How to determine the number of sides, vertex and angles of a polygon?

Example 1: Let us figure this out!

1. Name the polygon.
2. Identify its angle, vertices, sides, and diagonals.
3. Identify a pair of each consecutive angles, consecutive vertices and
consecutive sides.
SOLUTION

How to distinguish convex from concave polygons?

Let’s identify if these polygon are convex or non-convex (concave)

These are convex polygon These are concave polygon

To illustrate, let us draw a diagonals of a figure from each group.

A polygon is convex if no diagonals is in the exterior of the polygon.

A polygon is concave if at least one diagonals is in the exterior of

the polygon

From the given sets of polygons, how will you know if

the polygons is a regular polygon?
 A polygon is equilateral if all of the side have
equal length.

 A polygon is equiangular if all of the angles have

equal measures.
 A REGULAR polygon is both equilateral and
equiangular.

Some regular polygons have special names

 Four sided- regular polygons – SQUARE

 Three sided regular polygon – EQUILATERAL
TRIANGLE

4. Elaborate

5. Evaluate Assessment: Individual

Test 1. Write POP if the statement is true and CORN if false and
underline the word that makes it false.

1. There are five vertices and five

side in Octagon. Corn
2. A triangle has 3 angles, sides, and
vertices. Pop
3. The heart shape is a polygon.
Corn
4. The code of undecagon is
duo+deca = twelve. Corn
5. A regular polygon is both
equilateral and equiangular. Pop

Test II. Determine the name, number of sides, vertex, and interior angles
of a polygon. Refer to the illustration below.
