I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards Demonstrates understanding of rate and speed, and of area and surface area of
plane and solid/space figures.
B. Performance is able to apply knowledge of speed, area, and surface area of plane and
Standards solid/space figures in mathematical problems and real-life situations
C. Most Essential Finds the surface area of cubes, prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones, and spheres.
Learning (M6ME-IIIi-93)
Competencies
(MELC)/
D. Objectives 1. Define a cone and identify its key components, such as the radius and height.
(Cognitive, 2. Solve the surface area of a cone.
Psychomotor, 3. Participate actively in class discussion and group activities.
Affective)
II.CONTENT/TOPIC Find the surface area of a Cone
III.LEARNING K to 12 MELC Math 6 2020 page 225
RESOURCES Math 6 Q3 W8 module, PPT, 3D Cone, pictures.
IV.PROCEDURES
A. Preparatory Activities
1. Review
Ask: What was our previous topic all about? (Finding the Surface Area of a Square Pyramid)
How are we going to find the surface area of a Square Pyramid? (SA = L.A + B)
2. Drill
Let’s solve this:
A pyramid has a square base of 10 cm and a height of 15 cm. What is its surface area?

Formula: SA = LA + B
Given: Square Base (b) = 10 cm, Height (h) = 15 cm
Solution:
Step 1: Find the Lateral Area (LA)
LA = 4(1/2)(b)(h)
LA = 4(1/2)(10cm)(15cm)
LA = 4(1/2)(150cm2)
LA = 4(75cm2)
LA = 300cm2
Step 2: Find the Base (B)
B = (s)(s)
B = (10cm)(10cm)
B = 100cm2
Step 3: Find the Surface Area (SA)
SA = LA + B
SA = 300cm2 + 100cm2
SA = 400cm2
The surface area of a square pyramid that has a square base of 10 cm and a height of 15 cm is 400cm 2.

3. Motivation
Present a 3D Cone Object.
Ask: What figure/object is this? Describe the figure.
Let the pupils think and identify objects that can be found in their surroundings that are cone-shaped.
Possible Answers:
Ask: With the identified cone-shaped objects, how can we calculate its surface area?
B. Presentations/
Activity
Present a 3D Cone and
Height identify its parts, such as the
base and the height.
Base
Group Activity:
Using the 3D Cone presented, let each group take its measurements, such as the
radius and the height. Give the formula and help them solve.
Formula: Surface Area (SA) = Lateral Area (πrh) + Base (πr2)
Where: π = pi (3.14), r = radius, h = height

Let them report their work.

C. Analysis Ask:
How did you find the surface area of the given cone?
What did you notice about the relationship between the radius, height, and surface
area?
Were there any challenges you faced while calculating the surface area?
How does changing the radius or height affect the surface area of the cone?
D. Abstraction Is it important to know how to calculate the surface area of a cone? Why?
E. Application Group Activity:
Each group will receive one activity card containing a problem that they need to
solve. Calculate the surface area and report it at the front.
1: Radius = 5 cm; height = 8 cm
2: Radius = 3 cm; height = 10 cm
3: Radius = 6 cm; height = 10 cm
4: Radius = 7 cm; height = 12 cm
5: Radius = 4 cm; height = 15 cm
F. Assessment For Set A (Morning)
