FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

Module: Engineering Mathematics I

Code: TEGM3591
Academic Year: 2021
Semester: 1
Contact Hours: 3 Online lectures + 2 Tutorials per week
Lecturer: Mr. N. N Indongo (Ext: 4239. Office number: CV118)

Assessment Criteria

The continuous assessment (CA) contributes 50% (3 Face to Face Tests + 3 Online Quizzes +2
Assignments) of the final marks and examination contributes 50% of the final marks

Course objectives are:

To cultivate and nature basic problem-solving skills and relate the subject to basic applications in
mathematical modeling (Economics, Demography, and various Engineering areas).

Expected learning outcomes: upon completion of this module, students will be able to:

o Solve basic mathematics and engineering problems using vectors and matrices.
o Use various mathematical functions and apply them to engineering.
o Apply trigonometry in solving mathematical and engineering problems.
o Perform functions transformations (Cartesian/polar), sketch and name some polar graphs.
o Apply the principle of differentiation/integration to solve basic mathematical
and engineering problems.
o Define, interpret complex numbers and to perform elementary complex numbers algebra.
