iii. Calculate the value of the rate constant and state its units, if any.(03mark)
(b) Sketch curves of reactant concentration against time for the decomposition of gas A to show the
relative rates for both first and second order decompositions. (06marks)
(c) i. What do you understand by the term half-life of the reaction?(01mark)

4. (a) With examples, give reasons as to why some metal are not extracted by electrolytic reduction
method.(03 Marks)
(b) Explain the following;
i. Although nitric acid is a strong oxidizing agent, it is transported by using aluminium
containers. (02marks)
ii. Common chemical reducing agents have no action on aluminium ore. (02marks)
(c) i. One of the important procedure in extraction of metals is “Calcination and roasting” but not all
metal ore are roasted. Justify this statement. (04marks)
ii. With the aid of chemical equations, describe how tin metal is extracted from stannic oxide
(SnO2)(05marks).
(d) Transition elements and their compounds are used as catalysts. Briefly, explain the attributes of
the transition elements which are responsible for their catalytic activity.(04 Marks)

(d) .Polymer whose monomers contain a methyl group and those that contain a carbonyl group are
soluble in organic solvents such as acetone. Which of the two is more soluble? (03marks)
6. (a)Compound F, C3H7Br react with magnesium metal in dry ether and subsequently the mixture of
the reaction was treated with carbondioxide and dilute acid to give compound G whose molecular
formula is C4H8O2. Compound G,turns a blue litmus paper red and liberates carbondioxide gas
from aqueous solution of sodium hydrogen carbonate. When compound F is treated with aqueous
sodium hydroxide it produces, H, which when treated with Iodine in alkaline solution it gives
yellow crystals.
i. Identify compounds F,G and H and write their structural formula (06Marks)
ii. Write the chemical equations for all the reactions involved. (04𝟏⁄𝟐marks).
(b) A hydrocarbon A(C3H6) on reacting with HCl gives compound B (C3H7Cl) which on reactingwith
1mole of ammonia, gives(C3H9N). On treating C with NaNO2 andHCl followed by hydrolysis,
alcohol D is formed. Identify and write structural formula of compound A to D and explain all the
chemical reactions involved.(12𝟏⁄𝟐marks)
