REPLACEMENT: BRAKE DISCS – FIAT PUNTO 188.
TOOLS YOU NEED:

Wire brush Brake caliper wind back tool


WD-40 spray Ratchet wrench
Brake cleaner Torque wrench
Copper grease Tap wrench
Drive socket # 12 Flat Screwdriver
Drive socket # 17 Crow bar
Wheel impact socket #19 Wheel chock

Replacement: brake discs – Fiat Punto 188. Tip from AUTODOC:

Replace the brake disks on the car Fiat Punto 188 in complete set for each axis.
Regardless of the state of components. This will ensure even braking.

The replacement procedure is identical for both brake disks on the same axle.

When changing the brake discs, always replace the brake pads.

Please note: all work on the car – Fiat Punto 188 – should be done with the
engine switched off.

CARRY OUT REPLACEMENT IN THE FOLLOWING ORDER:


1 Open the bonnet. Unscrew the brake fluid reservoir cap.

2 Secure the wheels with chocks.

3 Loosen the wheel mounting bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.

4 Raise the front of the car and secure on supports.

5 Unscrew the wheel bolts.

AUTODOC recommends:

Important! Hold the wheel while unscrewing the fastening bolts. Fiat Punto 188

6 Remove the wheel.

7 Spread the brake pads. Use a crowbar.

8 Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

9 Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. Use a tap wrench.

10 Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket.

Replacement: brake discs – Fiat Punto 188. Tip from AUTODOC:

Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting
from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.

11 Clean the brake disc fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

12 Unscrew the brake disc fastening. Use a drive socket #12. Use a ratchet wrench.

13 Remove the brake disc.

14 Clean the hub. Use a wire brush. Treat the contacting surface. Use copper grease.

15 Install the brake disc.

16 Tighten the brake disc fastening. Use a drive socket #12. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 9 Nm torque.

17 Install the brake caliper together with its bracket.

18 Tighten the brake caliper bracket. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 57 Nm torque.

19 Clean the brake caliper fasteners. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray.

20 Remove the brake caliper cotter pin. Use a flat screwdriver.

21 Remove the brake caliper fastener. Use a flat screwdriver.

22 Remove the brake caliper.

Replacement: brake discs – Fiat Punto 188. Professionals recommend:

Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting
from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system.

Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose.

Don't press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result,
the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and
depressurization of the system may occur.

Check the brake caliper bracket, brake caliper guide pins and boots. Clean them.
Replace, if necessary.

23 Remove the brake pads.

24 Clean the brake caliper bracket from dirt and dust. Use a wire brush. Use a brake cleaner.

minutes.

25 Treat the brake caliper piston. Use a brake cleaner.

After applying the spray, wait a few minutes.

26 Press in the brake caliper piston. Use brake caliper wind back tool.

27 Install the brake pads.

28 Install the brake caliper and fix it.

29 Install the brake caliper fastener.

30 Install the brake caliper cotter pin.

31 Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease.

32 Clean the brake disk surface. Use a brake cleaner.

Replacement: brake discs – Fiat Punto 188. After applying the spray, wait a few
minutes.

33 Install the wheel.

AUTODOC recommends:

Warning! To avoid injury, hold the wheel while screwing in the fastening bolts on
the car. Fiat Punto 188

34 Screw in the wheel bolts. Use wheel impact socket #19.

35 Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 86 Nm
torque.

36 Remove the jacks and chocks.

Check the brake fluid level in the expansion tank and refill if necessary.

37 Tighten the brake fluid reservoir cap.

Replacement: brake discs – Fiat Punto 188. AUTODOC recommends:

Without starting the engine, press the brake pedal several times until you feel
significant resistance.

38 Close the hood.
