Church
In 1910, one missionary and his wife from America came to our state particularly
to the town of Tedim nearby the place where we are living now. From that time onward
Christianity was started in out place. There are many Churches. Even in my village,
there are 9 Churches. The Church I have been attending in my village is not a big
Church. It is one of the smallest Churches and also the least in membership. There are
around 200 members in the Church. It is planted over 40 years ago by my grandfather.
I’m going to narrate the story of my Church very briefly. Now it is the second generation
of our Church. I am going to present in my paper about the negative and positive
impacts of our Church and my own reflection.2
In the year of 1975, the Church is planted by Mr. Neng Kho Vungh and Mr. Nang
Do Mung. The name of the Church is Myanmar Christ Baptist Church (M.C.B.C).
Nobody ordained them to be the ministers of God. Therefore, one of the pastor in
another Church and ordained both of them and they served the Lord in the Church
which they planted around 4 years. In 1979, there is one disagreement between these
two leaders of the Church to separate them. Pastor Nang Do Mung does not like choir in
the Church. So he separates himself from the Church and leaves the Church. And he
plants another Church. After they divided, pastor Nene Kho Vungh ordained one of the
believers, named Mr. Gin Khan Pau, to assist him. And both of them take care of the
Church. The pastor is not an educated but God is with him and uses him in very mighty
ways. He believes in prayer and whomsoever he prayed for they got healed. He and his
assistant work together the Church about 6 years. Then, he ordained one of the believers
who is called Mr. En Khen Thang from different village. Now they three of them are
working together in the Church and also go for ministry. During that time, Pastor Neng
Kho Vungh is suffering from some sicknesses, and he could not able to go for ministry.
Even he could not attend the Church. Therefore, Pastor Gin Khan Pau and En Khen
Thang take care of the Church. At that time, there are some false doctrines and beliefs
coming out from the believers. Some believe in prophecy and some in unknown tongue.
Negative Impacts
The Church is not much growing in spiritual life. There are some negative
impacts in the Church those hinder the growth of the believers spiritually. Sometimes
when our pastors are going for ministry in other places, they tell the deacons to take
care of the Church while they are away from the Church. When the pastors are not in the
Church, one of the deacons preaches the word of God without preparation, and he will
just read one scripture portion from the Bible and speaks whatever he wants to speak
without explaining text, and sometimes making joke and then finish it. Even the pastors
give the deacons a chance to preach knowing that they are not prepared. Without
preparation they just come to the pulpit and preach. This is a bad thing. And this
hinders the spiritual growth of the believers. Even the believers want to listens some
entertainments or jokes rather than the word of God during the preaching time. That is
one negative impact. The pastors encourage the believers to maintain good works for
getting salvation, and they teach that salvation is not only by faith but also by good
works. Concerning baptism, we practice immersion baptism. But without sharing the
gospel of Jesus to the people the pastor give baptism to the people whosoever want to
Positive Impacts
There are also some positive impacts in our Church. I know that in our place
there are many believers who criticize their pastors. I see in our Church that though our
pastors are weak in many areas, the believers never criticize our pastors rather they
respect and love them so much because of their commitment to serve the Lord. Our
Church does not give our pastors salary monthly, but we give on the day of our Church
conference once in a year. If the Church’s budget is more, they get more or it is less, they
get less. But they never complain for the money or salary how much they get because
they have a heart to server the Lord. This is a great challenge to me from my pastors.
Though our Church does not have a prayer meeting, the believers are going to the
Church at early morning and at evening to prayer. And also in morning our pastors are
visiting every house and pray for the family. In every service, there is a time for praising
God with song or testimony from anyone who is willing to praise. These are the things
that I know about the positive and negative of our Church and could able to collect right
now.
Conclusion and Reflection
Our Church needs many things. The most important thing is revival. Most the
Church members are not saved. They need the message of salvation. They believe the
doctrine of salvation in the wrong way. After coming here I have a great burden or
desire to bring the message of the gospel of Christ in our Church because I know they
need to be saved. The negative impacts of our Church challenge me to be the minister of
God in our Church. And they give me the reason why God brought me here in this
college. And now I understand why I am here. And I believe that God will revive the
Church through me. Therefore, I pray to God that He will give me a willing heart or a
burden to share the gospel to the people. In conclusion, our Church is 43 years old.
From the beginning up to this time there are five pastors who have been worked in our
Church. Today we have two pastors. The Our Church needs spiritual development.
