Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

ENGLISH 10
I. Objectives:
a. Define and identify the elements of persuasive writing.
b. Present a song, role play, and news reporting using persuasive strategies.
c. Appreciate the lesson by actively participating in the group and individual
activities.
II. Subject Matter:
Topic: Persuasive Essay
Reference: Module 2 ENGLISH 10 ( 3rd Quarter )
Materials: Laptop and PowerPoint Presentation, blackboard, Chalk, Visual Aids
Concepts: A persuasive essay is written to persuade the reader. The writer attempts to
get the reader to agree with his point of view.
Value Integration: He presents arguments, research, and ideas to convince the reader.

III. Procedures:
A. Daily Routine:
Prayer
Greetings
Checking of Attendance
Classroom Management/Cleanliness

B. Preliminary Activities
Motivation:
The teacher will prepare some jumbled words for them to arrange them correctly. Then
the teacher will divide them into two (2) groups. Then a group representative will write
and read in front the correct arrangement of the phrases.
Direction: This word corresponds to phrases that are often used in persuasive
advertisement.

DRFO - “Designed for living, engineered to last”

EGLCOAT - “9 out of 10 dentists, who tried would recommend it”.

Guide Questions:
1. What have you observe about the phrases?
C. Lesson Proper:
The teacher will proceed to the lesson. It’s all about Persuasive Essay.

PERSUASIVE ESSAY
 Is the act of persuading someone to do or to believe in something.
 According to Aristotle, a Greek philosopher, there are three ways to persuade:

1. ETHOS – An appeal to credibility or character.


Example: “As a doctor, I am qualified to tell you that this course of treatment will likely
generate the best results.”
2. LOGOS – An appeal to logic or reason.
Example: “History has shown time and again that absolute power corrupts absolutely.”.
3. PHATOS – An appeal to emotion.
Example: “If we don't move soon, we're all going to die! Can't you see how dangerous it would
be to stay”.
D. Group Activity: “TASK CARD”
Evaluation/Presentation of Output: The teacher will group the students into two (2). The
teacher will combine each group. (Groups 1, 2, and 3; Group 4, 5 and 6)
Direction: You will pick one from the task cards, Each group will be given five (5)
minutes to prepare and present it in front.

TASK CARD #1: NEWS REPORTING


1. From the short passage, assume that you are a reporter and you will report that the
parents of the students ask permission to join the field trip.
2. Interview the student and the parents about the field trip.
3. Use Ethos to persuade your parents.
4. Everyone must have a role in the role-playing.
5. ENJOY!!

TASK CARD #1: ROLE PLAYING


1. From the short passage, role play the benefits you will get if your parents will allow you
to join the field trip.
2. Use Logic or reasons to persuade your parents.
3. Everyone must have a role in the role playing.
4. ENJOY!!
TASK CARD #3: SONG WRITING
1. From the short passage, write a song on how would feel if your parents will allow you to
join the field trip.
2. Use Pathos or emotion to persuade your parents.
3. Everyone must sing the song in front.
4. ENJOY!!
