Clutch actuating system

OF/OH 1318 vehicles

For above mentioned vehicles (*), a new intermediate hydroservopneumatic cylinder (GRAU), Nº 000 295 27 18
is now supplied as spare part in replacement of the one with Nº 000 290 21 12.
(*) - OF/OH 1318 vehicles, with chassis final nº final lower than...087895 (OF) and ...100407 (OH),
equipped with G 3/60 gearbox and, 330 and 350mm diameter clutch.
Therefore, in case its becomes eventually necessary to replace the originally installed cylinder (Nº 000 290 21
12), the new cylinder (Nº 000 295 27 18) must be installed by considering following indications and the other
concerned parts (to be replaced too), presented below.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATIONS

• Aiming to avoid failure in the clutch actuating system, due mainly to the use of improper fluid and/or due to
the presence of water in the pneumatic pipings and tanks, we do recommend:
- to fulfill the clutch actuating system exclusively with “DOT 4” fluids approved by us (see oils recommended
on the “MB Specifications for Service Products-Fuels, Lubrificants, etc.” - sheet nr. 331.0).
- to follow the instructions stated in the “S.I. - Gr.: 29 - nº: 01/93”, referring to the fluid contamination by oth-
er incompatible products;
- to store the fluid in a proper ambient, free form humidity and to observe other factors that allow its contami-
nation by the water;
- to protect the fluid reservoir when washing the vehicle;
- to inform the Customers about the need to drain the air tanks periodically, at least every 15.000 km, accord-
ing the maintenance schedule.

• To perform the system bleeding, we recommend to adopt following procedure:

a - After the removal of reservoir cap of the master cylinder, connect the bleeding equipment to the same;
b - By applying a 1 bar pressure to the system, allow the ”fluid + air” to flow out through the bleeding screw of
intermediate hydroservopneumatic cylinder (GRAU), during approximately 5 minutes. Tighten the bleeding
screw;
c - Remove the bleeding hose from the bleeding screw of the hydroservopneumatic cylinder and connect it to
the bleeding screw of the slave cylinder. Afterward, by keeping the 1 bar pressure in the system, allow the
”fluid + air” to flow out through the bleeding screw of the slave cylinder during approximately 5 minutes.
Tighten the bleeding screw;
d - By keeping the pressure in the system, actuate the clutch pedal 5 times. While the pedal is depressed,
open the bleeding screw of the slave cylinder for a few seconds, allowing so the “fluid + air” still existing in
the system to flow out. Tighten the bleeding screw while the pedal remains depressed;
e - By closing the bleeding screw, the clutch pedal will remain at its lower position. Pull it slowly until reaching
its upper stopper;
f - Repeat (d) and (e) procedures two times;
g - Disconnect the bleeding equipment from the slave cylinder reservoir;
h - While the reservoir remains open, actuate the clutch pedal until its travel end, keeping it in this position for
about 2 minutes. During this procedure, compress the connection hose between the master cylinder and
the reservoir in order to allow the air to reach the reservoir and to be completely eliminated. Close the res-
ervoir.
i - If the pedal travel doesn’t change after successive actuations, it will mean that the system is fully bleeded.
In case there are travel changes, beyond the established limits, repeat the bleeding procedure.

• As of the chassis final nº...087895(OF) and ...100407(OH), OF/OH 1318 vehicles are now equipped with (ZF)
S5 680 gearbox and 350mm diameter clutch, fitted with (WABCO) hydroservopneumatic slave cylinder.
