PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS

Mounting Instructions
If the installation is wall-mounted, it is recommended that you attach
the cables to an encased box. The position selected for mounting the
box must satisfy the requirements established for the mounting area
and must allow the necessary space for opening the box (see Figure
1). In addition, there must be sufficient space around the bottom of
the unit (and to the right, on the CTU-A04) to allow you to access the
box with a screwdriver.

PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS 5
Electrical Connections
The TemaServer is powered at low voltage (12VAC/DC 300mA).

DC Power Supply
The TemaServer can be powered at low voltage (12VDC 300mA) by a
battery-operated power supply module (RTU-Qxx). In order to
determine the correct size for power cables, refer to the table below.
Make sure that the 12V cable corresponds in size to the norms
indicated in the table below (voltage cable drop max = 1V):
Cable Length(m) = 1V / (I[A] load x 2 x (res [Ohm/km] /1000))

6 PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS
AC Power Supply (Optional)
• Installation on floor or ceiling panels
Use three plastic dowels to attach the transformer (option TRN-
01, 100mm x ∅70mm) directly to the wall, floor, or ceiling, taking
care to avoid moveable surfaces. Connect the cables to the
terminal box located on the module.

PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS 7
Transformer TRN-01
To mount the TRN-01 transformer, follow these steps:
1. Use the three plastic dowels with M4 screws to attach the
support plate to the wall and mount the transformer module onto
that.
2. Attach the entry wire (230VAC) to the entry connector (next to the
fuse) and the output wire (12VAC) to the other connector (see
Figure 4). The maximum diameter allowed is 2.5mm2 for both entry
wires (230V) and output wires (12V).
3. Use an isolated connector to join the ground wires together.
4. Use the cable clamp to bind the wires together.
5. Screw the cover onto the transformer module and bind the cables
together at the base of the transformer module.

8 PRELIMINARY OPERATIONS
LONWORKS Data Cable

• The LONWORKS data cable must be twisted-pair.

• In a free-topology configuration, the sum total of the sections must
not exceed 500m.
• In a bus configuration, the sum total of the sections must not
exceed 2700m.
• In a free-topology configuration, activate the 50ohm terminator by
placing the appropriate jumper on the FTT10A plug-in of the CTU.
• In a bus configuration, place two terminators (with resistance
values of 100ohm 1% ½W) at the two ends of the bus.
• Check that the length of the LONWORKS data cable corresponds
to the norms indicated in Table 1.

INSTALLATION

Attaching the Terminal Support Plate

To attach the terminal support plate, drill two holes into the wall, into
which to introduce the M6 screws and plastic dowels that are to hold
up the support plate (see Figure 1). Make sure that the support
plate attached to the wall is aligned with the niche on the lower
part of the support plate (use a ∅ 6mm slotted screwdriver).

10 INSTALLATION
Hooking Up the Terminal
To hook up the terminal to the wall, follow these steps (see Figure 7):
1. Attach the upper part of the terminal to the upper hooks on the
support plate.
2. Insert the cables into the terminal through the specified openings.
3. Tighten the two screws that secure the terminal to the support
plate (use a ∅ 6mm slotted screwdriver).

1) Attach terminal to hooks

2) Insert cables

3) Tighten screws
Figure 7. Hooking Up the Terminal

INSTALLATION 11
Connecting the Cables
To connect the cables, follow these steps:
1. Line up the cables with the grooves at the back of the terminal and
screw in the small plate that serves as a cable clamp (use a ∅
5mm Philips screwdriver).
2. Attach the ends of the cable heads onto both the connectors and
the terminal boxes located on the lower part of the terminal (use a
∅ 3mm slotted screwdriver).
3. Tip: Place the cables in the lower lateral grooves, so that they are
not forced to negotiate tight bends (see Figure 8).

12 INSTALLATION
CAUTION
• The polarity of the LONWORKS® cables is not significant.
• Both the connectors are of the indirect type; to remove the
cables, simply unthread the moveable part of the connector.
• To connect to the LAN Ethernet 10BaseT (paired cable), insert the
cable into the corresponding RJ45 connector (see Figure 9).
• The F1 fuse for the battery is normally switched off; switch on at
time of activation.
• There is a jumper on the Lonworks board: if it is closed, this
activates the 51 ohm Free Topology line termination
