A polygon is said to be convex if no diagonal is in the exterior of the polygon. A
polygon is non-convex or concave if at least one diagonal is in the exterior of the
polygon

Ms. Reinette dela Cruz is planning to build a gazebo outside her mansion whose
base is a regular hexagon. At what angle should she cut the lumber to frame the said
base? your answer.

What Is It
How did you solve the activity? You can solve the problem by finding the
measure of one of the interior angles.
What do you mean by finding the measure of one of the interior angles?
Finding the measure of an interior angles means to know the measure of each angle
inside a specific polygon.
How will you find the measure of one of the interior angles ? You can find
the measure of one of the interior angles by using the formula: 180°(n-2)
n
Example:
Determine the measure of one of the interior angles given the number of sides of a
polygon.
1. 6
Solution:
Measure of one of interior angles =180°(n-2)
n
= 180°(6-2)
6
= 180°(4)
6
Measure of one of interior angles = 120°

What’s More
A. Find the sum of the interior angles of a regular heptagon.
1. Sum = 180° (n-2) and given that n=7 (heptagon)
Sum= 180° (7-2)
Sum= 180° (5)
Sum of the interior angles = 900°

3
B. Find the number of sides of a polygon given the sum of the measure of the interior
angles.
1. 540 °
2. 720°
Solution: 1. Sum = 180° (n-2)
540° = 180° (n-2)
540° = 180°n - 360°
540° + 360° = 180°n
900° = 180°n
180° 180° (divide everything by 180°)
5 = n

Therefore: the polygon has 5 sides

Solution: 1. Sum = 180° (n-2)

720° = 180° (n-2)
720° = 180°n - 360°
720° + 360° = 180°n
1080° = 180°n
180° 180° (divide everything by 180°)
6 = n

Therefore: the polygon has 6 sides

C. Find the measure of an exterior angle of a regular decagon.

Measure of an exterior angle = 360° and n= 10

n
Measure of an exterior angle = 360° = 36°
10
