Film Studies Essay
Crafting a Film Studies essay can be a formidable task, requiring a delicate balance between
analytical prowess and creative insight. The intricacies of dissecting cinematic elements, unraveling
narrative threads, and discerning the underlying themes demand a comprehensive understanding of
film theory and history.
One of the challenges lies in navigating the vast landscape of cinematic genres, styles, and
movements. Choosing a specific focus within the expansive realm of Film Studies can be a daunting
decision, as each avenue unveils its own set of complexities and nuances. Whether exploring the
aesthetic choices of a renowned director, delving into the socio-cultural impact of a particular film,
or dissecting the narrative structure of a cinematic masterpiece, the task requires a meticulous
approach.
Furthermore, a successful Film Studies essay necessitates the ability to seamlessly weave together
theoretical frameworks with concrete examples from the vast world of cinema. The researcher must
demonstrate an acute awareness of film terminology, thematic analysis, and critical discourse.
Interpreting visual language and translating it into written analysis adds an additional layer of
challenge to the endeavor.
The research process can be both time-consuming and demanding. Immersing oneself in a plethora of
scholarly articles, film critiques, and historical context is crucial for building a comprehensive
foundation. Distinguishing between credible sources and subjective opinions is a skill that one must
hone to ensure the academic integrity of the essay.
In the writing phase, maintaining a coherent structure while articulating original insights becomes
paramount. The essay must not merely summarize but critically engage with the chosen topic,
offering a fresh perspective that contributes to the broader discourse in Film Studies. The ability to
synthesize information, construct a compelling argument, and convey complex ideas with clarity is

Artistic Voice Essay
Artistic Voice
Authors have a distinct identity that you recognize when you read their work of art. The
qualities and aspects of a text that give an author a distinct identity as an artist are known
as their artistic voice. Denise Levertov and Anne Sexton both use different themes in
their poetry that separate them from other poets. Denise Levertov writes about the
unknown and the unsaid in life. Anne Sexton distinguishes herself by writing about her
family, loves, and her emotional tragedies. Sandra Cisneros wrote a novel called The
House on Mango Street that contained a different setup than most novels. It was written
in fragments and the language was straightforward. Cisneros focuses on the importance

Meaning those problems that occur in the marriage will not just disappear when you kiss
and make up. In the second stanza she is using communion to express how a spouse if
looking for communication with their partner and is being turned away each by each.
Levertov refers to society as a leviathan in the third stanza. She also talks about how the
couple is looking for joy in their relationship, but they do not want it to be known that
things are not working out with them. In the last stanza Levertov uses to the ark of to
explain the survival of marriage. Everyone feels that marriage is a delightful experience;
choosing to ignore the reality of struggles that relationships must deal with. Levertov
took the one sided view that people hold of marriage and exemplified the realistic
problems that people tend to forget.
When Anne Sexton writes her poetry she writes to make the reader feel what she is
writing. Sexton tends to write about her own experiences and events in other women s
lives. In Anne Sexton s Unknown Girl in the Maternity Ward, she uses a language to
express a mother s pain and anger after she gave birth to her fatherless child:
And now that s that. There is nothing more that I can say or lose.
Others have traded life before and could not speak. I tighten to refuse your owling eyes,

Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation
Hypothetical Misinterpretation
Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the
relationship between artworks and exploratory interpretations, has gone under criticism
for allowing misinterpretations to be deemed as valid could mean options. However, one
finds when reading Two Notions of Interpretation and Intention and Interpretation in
Literature that these criticisms are effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson
presents. Firstly, although the exploratory mode of inquiry can have multiple, if not
infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers. These could not mean
interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be judged
on a scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with
multiple correct interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive.
To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be
pragmatic and use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of
works to determine their interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either
exclusively use does mean or could mean modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former
and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually have mutual implications. To
examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean and then come to
an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a
determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely
could mean inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a
does mean interpretation available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the
infinite possible could mean interpretations create an absence of meaning. It is here I
would like to extend the definition of does mean interpretation beyond scientific
knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations. Although we will

Character Analysis Of King Henry V
King Henry is one of the most successful kings of England. He brought two warring
kingdoms crashing together, and melded them into one united country. Henry is an
extremely interesting and dynamic character. From a young age he associated with
criminals, drunkards, and other lowly citizens. When his father was on his deathbed, he
requested that Henry stopped being a criminal, and begin acting like a king. Henry made
that oath, and stayed true to it until his dying day.
As a king, he became a king after being a criminal. He went from a criminal prince to an
upstanding kind king who understands justice and follows the righteous path for the rest
of his life. It is such a crazy transformation; from criminal hiding crimes from the king to

Directly after that event, he judges three people to death for attempting treason. Reasons
like this are the reason Henry progresses the story as the main protagonist. He is the
main driving force that is pushing the plotline forward. Every time he is in a scene he
enhances it, and brings the act more color and flare.
While Henry does adapt his ways often, he doesn t always change. One of the examples
of him sticking to old ways is how he is a religious man. Early in the story, he listens to
the Archbishop, and starts this war because of him. The Archbishop is the prophet of
god, which correlates with being a pious person. The English win the Battle of Agincourt
in an astounding manner; only losing less than 30 men while the French lost 10,000
men. He decides the reason behind them winning the battle God s will. Another example
of this is his choice to end people s lives.
Henry V is a man of God, which is again shown on the eve of the Battle of Agincourt
when he is talking with his men. One of his men wishes they had more men fighting, yet
Henry wishes the opposite. If God has chosen them to lose this battle then more men
would die. On the
other hand, if God had chosen them to win, extra men wouldn t be needed, so they can
use those extra men to suppress the Scottish rebellion.
Henry doesn t blame always blame the innocents for others crimes either. There is an
example in which Henry V has no quarrel with the innocent. The time arrives when
English Song Critique
The first goal I set for the second quarter was to Write and record an English song.
While I did not completely finish a song, I developed instrumentals, lyrics, and melody
lines for two songs. Interestingly, I brainstormed the ideas for both projects while
walking my dog, Bandit.
The first, which I have tentatively titled Melody, started with me humming a rhythmic
piano part, then a melody line. Next, I developed the instrumental in GarageBand, with
an electric guitar part as a placeholder for the vocals. I found some really cool techno
/electronic effects, percussion parts, and bass parts, and utilized them in my project. I
scribbled some rough lyric ideas, then brought them into class one day and implored

The singer could be the significant other of a criminal, or perhaps their child, wondering
about the psychological meaning behind the criminal s behavior. It will likely develop
into a story song, which contains the easily recognized elements of telling a narrative,
linear story beginning, middle and end, with a recognizable story arc that contains the
classic elements of drama and delivery; it also has relatable imagery to appeal to
audiences (Anderson). Unlike Melody, for this song I developed the melody of the
chorus first, building around the opening line you re an outlaw. While I was singing, I
couldn t help but feel that the song sounded Taylor Swift like, which is a very different
sound from my other two pieces. I didn t want to forget my song idea, so as soon as I
returned home after the walk, I recorded the melody in GarageBand using my MIDI
keyboard and worked out some lyrics. I fleshed out the track with guitar chords and a
drum beat, and later recorded the vocals in the vocal booth. In the second semester, I
will compose the verses and
