Relative importance of different segments of General Studies on the
Basis of analysis of CS Prelims’ previous twelve years papers
The proportion, in which questions are going to be asked from the different sections of the syllabus in the General Studies
paper, is not fixed. Generally, more questions were asked from History, Polity, Environment and Ecology, Economics and Geography,
but 2016 witnessed an overhaul in this pattern. This tendency of change of pattern was apparent in the 2023 paper as well. Thus,
the proportional distribution of questions is something which is very uncertain. The following table can help you know the proportion
of questions asked from various sections from 2012 to 2023.
Segments 2012 2013 2014 2015 2016 2017 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 2023
History of India 20 16 19 16 16 13 22 16 19 19 14 13
The table given below highlights that how many questions have been asked from different sections of CSAT in the last
twelve years.
Total 80 80 80* 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80
*In 2014, the evaluation of questions from English Comprehension were not taken into consideration, which means that only
74 questions were taken for calculating the the cut-off. From year 2015 onwards, English comprehension was removed from the
CSAT question paper.
