With philosophy of delivering safety and continuous supply of natural gas, the requirements of
service station shall be agreed prior to the installation of the service station.
Basic requirements of service station:
I. The area in which gas facilities are to be located shall be at the ground floor and allowable
for GMD’s personnel to have immediate access to/from the gas station to conduct meter
reading (once a month) and routine maintenance services.
II. Underneath the station and within the fencing parameter should be clear from any utilities
to avoid any third-party facilities. (e.g., cable, water lines, trench, lamp pole and etc.).
III. To avoid high pressure exposure, GMD are unable to locate the gas station more than 30m
length inside the premise area. It is advisable the proposed station location to be as near
as possible to the boundaries/entrance for the fast respond from GMD’s personnel during
any emergency happen.
IV. Proper drawings required to be forwarded to Gas Malaysia Distribution (GMD) for review.
The drawings shall include:
• Location drawing indicating the proximity distance to the neighboring buildings, public
ways, and sources of ignition. Ingress, egress, and GMD’s vehicle parking area are
required to be shown in the drawing.
VI. The land of which service station to be located needs to be packed to its final level prior to
handover to GMD.
VII. All fencing and platform will be constructed by GMD. However, for any
modification/additional of the station fencing, customers shall submit the proposed design
to GMD for approval.
VIII. Hazardous zone is 3 meters from the fence, 5 meters radius from pressure relief valve and
no ignition sources shall be installed within this parameter area (e.g., welding area,
electrical supply source, smoking area, shrine, food court and etc.).

INTERNAL PIPING
Internal piping is commonly known to be in-house piping connecting from the service station to
the burner equipment. The installation of gas piping shall be done by the licensed contractor
(registered with JKKP/DOSH). Gas piping design and installation shall be in accordance with MS
930:2017, MS 830:2013, Gas Supply Act 1993 and Gas Supply Regulation 1997.
Pipe Routing: The internal piping shall be constructed from the exit point of the service station
to the equipment burners. It is recommended to be install aboveground instead of the
underground to ease the maintenance services.
Pressure Drop: The allowable pressure drop shall NOT be more than 15%.
Velocity: The velocity of flow inside the pipeline shall NOT exceed 20 m/s to avoid pipe sweating,
which will be contributing to pipe leakage and damage to the others equipment.
Main Valve: A main valve (upstream valve) shall be installed at the exit point of the service
station and MUST be outside of the service station fencing.

To avoid any unnecessary payments been imposed to the Offtaker, the internal piping installation
works, and approvals shall be completed by the commissioning date of the gas facilities assigned
by the Distributor.
Award: The Offtaker needs to award licensed gas piping to the contractor that registered with
DOSH. The scope of work would be for pipe reticulation system.
Permit to Install (PTI): The awarded contractor shall submit the PTI to DOSH. This process
would take 6-8 weeks to obtain the approval from DOSH.
Piping Installation: To be installed after PTI is obtained. The process would take 1-2 weeks
depending on the length of pipe, difficulty of installation, etc. Pressure Tightness Test need to be
done to ensure the piping is in a good condition. During this period, it is advisable for the
contractor to book a slot with DOSH officer for the piping inspection.
Inspection: The inspection shall be conducted by the authority under jurisdiction, which is DOSH.
The inspection shall be accompanied by the owner, contractor and to be witnessed by the Seller.
A Testing Log will be issued by Dosh officer together with comments on the piping system during
the inspection days.
Permit to Operate (PTO): To be issued by DOSH after the inspection. Normally, it takes 1-2
weeks to obtain the approval from DOSH.
Commissioning: Internal piping commissioning to be done after obtaining PTO from DOSH. A
copy of PTI, Testing Log with DOSH’s comments and PTO to be handed to Seller. Seller will
assist on the system commissioning. The commissioning is completed once internal piping has
achieved 100% of natural gas.

Gas control equipment with accessories (also known as gas train) is the part of the internal piping
before reaching the burner appliances. The gas train will further regulate the supply pressure to
suit with the burner requirement. Burner and its control equipment shall be compatible for Natural
Gas. Nozzle conversion is required if the burner is not compatible for Natural Gas.
