Officer/Commissioner Responsibilities 2023-2024

ASB Board Responsibilities

ASB President
Work with advisor(s) to create Student Council action plan
Help plan and organize summer Student Council training sessions
Set the agenda and run student council meetings
Attend AHS Site Council meetings
Organize Student Council involvement in Registration Week
Plan ASB involvement in Back to School Night and “Showcase”
Create and lead action plan for Student Council binders
Lead commissioner interviews
Organize and advertise Monday Night Meetings
Member of the Executive Board
Create and maintain Council communication system
Coordinate with the Activities Advisor(s) and Vice President to lead Commissionership,
individual council members, and Office check-ins at least twice a semester.
Facilitate annual Student Council review of ASB Bylaws and Constitution
Support and assist council members as needed
Organize and create an agenda for Student Council and Administration Meetings
(SCAAB) at least three times a semester

ASB Vice President


Assume ASB President’s responsibilities in absence of the ASB President
Organize House of Representatives meeting as specified in the Constitution
Summarize and report the House of Representative discussion topics to Student Council during the
next available time to do so after meeting takes place
Organize Freshmen and ASB elections
Train the Freshmen Class Officers
Organize the creation and distribution of Student Council apparel
Member of the Executive Board
Organize Leadership Lessons for Monday Night Meetings
Assist the ASB President with responsibilities as needed
Record meeting minutes at all Executive Board meetings
Work closely with administration to find freshman class advisors

ASB Board Representative


Attend AHS Site Council meetings
Attend all LVUSD School Board meetings (coordinate with Calabasas representative) and present an
update to the board regarding important AHS events and concerns when seated at the dias
Attend City Council meetings when necessary
Attend School District committee meetings as assigned (i.e. Calendar, Service Learning, Curriculum
Council, etc.)
Organize AHS involvement in city events
Attend and speak at all House of Representatives meetings
Communicate and present district and school board updates to the Student Council, House of
Representatives, and the Associated Student Body
Act as the liaison between: District/School Board, Student Council/House of Representatives, and
Associated Student Body
Take charge of political awareness and make information on political opportunities available to the
entire student body (i.e. Voter Registration Cards, Youth Council, etc.)
Follow all guidelines in LVUSD Board Bylaws 9150, Exhibit 9150, and California Education Code
35012
Member of the Executive Board
Represent and communicate with all LVUSD students and schools sites (ie. Preschool, Elementary,
Secondary Schools)
Implement any necessary or important changes to AHS, the district, or community to benefit the
student body
Coordinate with the CHS Board Representative to lead the Student Advisory Council. (work with
secondary schools to assign school representatives, create communication system with members,
organize & lead all monthly meetings)
Organize outreach events that allow students to share feedback about the District (ex. Student
Feedback Luncheon) and communicate this feedback to the District

Class Officer Responsibilities

President
Member of the Executive Board
Set goals for class at the beginning of the year (i.e. Action Plan)
Plan and implement all class activities noted below
Preside and prepare a platform to receive feedback from the class (Steering Committee meetings,
surveys, etc.) Make sure class activities are cleared and on the Master Calendar
Keep in regular communication with your Advisor(s)
Recruit and organize class members needed for other ASB events (pep rallies, other class events, etc.)
Delegate tasks (listed below) evenly among all class officers
Showcase class spirit on class social media account at least once per spirit week
Meet with ASB Treasurer and Bookkeeper once a semester to go over class finances

Class Officers (3)


Accept responsibilities delegated by the President
Assist the president in preparing a platform to receive feedback from the class (Steering Committee
meetings, surveys, etc.)
Take attendance at all Steering Committee meetings and submit any notes to President and Advisors
Help President plan and implement all class activities noted below
Keep a master calendar of all class activities
Keep a record of class finances and present it regularly to steering committee
Organize receipts, Purchase Orders, check requests, deposits, cash boxes, activity & fundraising apps,
etc. Responsible for all class mail (i.e. thank you notes, Prom magazines, etc.)
Help organize posters for class projects
Create and maintain class electronic communication system
Help recruit and organize class members needed for other ASB events (pep rallies, other class events,
etc.)
Meet with ASB Treasurer and Bookkeeper once a semester to go over class finances
Assist president in showcasing class spirit on class online platform at least once per spirit week
Assist president with class apparel distribution and organization

Class Events/Activities
Seniors: Battle of the Bands, Senior meeting, Prom, Grad Night, Senior Awards, Senior Brunch,
Senior Picnic, Senior Sunset, Graduation, Monthly Hot Spots, First Day Activity (Senior Sunrise,
etc), Commitment Day, Senior Video, Update Senior Events Kiosk
Juniors: Prom Scouting, Lip Sync, at least two additional fundraisers for the Junior class (ie. Junior
Java, etc.)
Sophomores: Film Festival, Coffee House Night and two additional fundraisers
Freshmen: Freshmen Frost, Movie Night, and at least two additional fundraisers (Matchomatics,
Restaurant Fundraiser, etc.)

Commissioner Responsibilities

Commissioner of Academics & Clubs (1)


Plan one Club Rush per semester
Pass all club constitutions through Student Council
Support attendance of club functions through advertising and communication
Review minutes from each club’s meeting
Coordinate ASB activities with clubs
Maintain & publicize a list of clubs each semester with description of the club, their meeting dates,
and other relevant information
Recognize clubs and their achievements throughout the year
Update, maintain, and publish Club Handbook to all club presidents and advisors
Liaison with yearbook advisor and staff to coordinate club recognition in yearbook
Attend Curriculum Council Meetings as necessary and report back to council
Inform/Promote state & college testing (e.g. CAASPP, SAT, ACT, PSAT, AP, IB)
Promote and advertise academic opportunities and events
Recognize student achievement monthly through Scholar of the Month
Liaison to Counseling office (including College & Career Center)
Engage the student body in celebrating counselor and teacher appreciation week

Commissioner of Arts (1)


Organize a school-wide collaborative art project
Host one fundraiser a semester to fundraise for art departments
Collaborate with the Commissioner of Mental and Environmental Wellness to plan one sustainability
assembly or event.
Host one fundraiser a semester to fundraise for art departments

Commissioner of Advertising (3)


Organize the creation and placement of posters, flyers, and banners on campus
Keep and update an accessible calendar on school events
Manage ASB's social networking presence (Instagram, Tik Tok, etc.) and student messaging systems
(i.e. Remind)
Research and Advertise a wide variety of student accomplishments
Serve as the liaison between Yearbook, Journalism, and Student Council to advertise student activities
and accomplishments
Create a system/plan to post photos of students and activities other than just informational posts (sport
games, student plays, etc.)
Oversee care of all advertising supplies and keep inventory (wash paint brushes, keep count of paint
bottles, paint pens, etc)

ASB Secretary & Historian (1)


Take minutes at every Student Council meeting
Distribute meeting minutes to absentees
Take attendance at Student Council events
Create Student Council scrapbook for the year
Coordinate faculty appreciation activities (Back to School breakfast, Appreciation week, and teacher
luncheon)
Organize Charger of the Month awards
Coordinate with yearbook staff on Student Council page
Keeps records of Agoura High School academics, athletics, and extracurricular landmarks
Communicate AHS history of the student body
Continue researching and organizing AHS records for an eventual History of AHS and Hall of Fame
Celebrate Student Council birthdays
Organize and operate suggestion box
Maintain a digital record of all Activity/Fundraising Apps
Act as the liaison between parent faculty (PFC) and student council

ASB Treasurer (1)


Maintain a digital system keeping track of all ASB accounts
Maintain a digital record of all purchase requisitions and check requests
Write PR/CR declination/more info needed letters
Learn and teach proper methods of passage and filing of PRs and Fundraising Apps to Student
Council, clubs, and organizations (attend information meetings)
Conduct and maintain inventory of all Student Council equipment and supplies
Order new supplies as necessary
With aid from the ASB advisor(s), ASB bookkeeper, and members of administration, finalize the
initial yearly budget over summer and draft the yearly budget for the next year
Reevaluate the budget at least once a semester

Commissioner of Athletics (2)


Work with Athletic Department to coordinate patriotic observances at sporting events
Work with the commissioners of spirit to find singers for the national anthem at home basketball
games
Maintain sports kiosks around campus (C building, L building, etc.)
Recognize athletes through various means (announcements/events)
Keep track of athletic team standings and achievements
Communicate with Assistant Principal and Athletic Director
Organize and implement Dodgeball, 3v3 Basketball, and Powder Puff (Girls Flag Football)

Organize and implement Silent Night
Work with the commissioners of Spirit to organize themes for games
Organize and implement at least two elementary school nights per season
Select responsible and motivated crowd leaders for home football games
Attend at least one athletic event per season (Fall, Winter, Spring)
Commissioner of Outreach (2)
Plan at least one donation drive (food, clothing, funds, etc.) per semester
Coordinate the holiday food drive
Plan at least one social outreach activity per semester (i.e. Neurodiverse luncheon, Outreach
luncheon)
Implement one outreach event for finals week each semester
Deliver Lost and Found items to a local charity when necessary
Coordinate with administration regarding student council’s participation in AHS Tours
Collaborate with the Seal of Civic Engagement advisor(s) to advertise volunteer opportunities and
recognize seal recipients

Commissioner of Events and Dances (2)


Plan the Homecoming dance
Create and organize Homecoming Committee for Homecoming Halftime Show
Plan the Winter/Spring dance
Plan ASB Installation
Form and head a committee to plan ASB retreats in coordination with ASB President and Vice
President
Plan date and location for next year’s summer retreat

Commissioner of Technology and Entertainment (4)


Responsible for ASB electronic equipment
Coordinate technological aspects of all ASB activities
Create, organize, and set up technology equipment at ASB events, and athletic events per request
(games, rallies, etc.)
Manage technology inventory to keep organized, functional, and relevant
Manage the AHS-ASB website and assist with Agoura-affiliated sites
Coordinate with Commissioners of Spirit to update year-long spirit competition
Update and manage advertisements on the marquee(s) when necessary
Coordinate and run all On-Campus Events/On-Campus Rehearsals as requested (includes spirit
weeks, advertising events, etc.)
Coordinate music for ASB and sporting events as needed
Attend and work sound system at all home football games and other games as assigned

Commissioner of Fundraising (3)


Organize and implement Silent Auction Organize and implement at least one additional fundraiser
Sell community discount cards over summer and at registration
Organize and implement college banner and diploma frame fundraiser at graduation
Enlist help from all student council members to aid with ASB fundraisers (CDC cards, Silent
Auction, etc.)

Commissioner of Mental & Environmental Wellness (1)


Hold at least one blood drive per semester
Raise drug and alcohol prevention awareness on campus
Coordinate with AHS clubs that are involved with health, wellness, and beautification
Organize at least one community beautification project per semester
Devise and implement a program/event for health awareness on campus (heart to heart hangout,
student well-being survey, etc.)
Update and make edits accordingly to the AHS mental health website
Spread awareness of mental health related issues and provide students with resources and support
Promote environmentally friendly practices on campus
Coordinate with other commissionerships on their event-planning to make them more sustainable and
zero waste
Coordinate with and support AHS clubs that are involved with environmental issues & awareness
Spread awareness about environmental issues and current events (through social media, bolt tv, etc.)
Organize at least one environmental/beautification project per semester (e.g. beach cleanups, tree
plantings, etc.)

Commissioner of Publicity (1)


Deliver the morning announcements everyday via P.A.
Collaborate with Video Production to produce Bolt TV once a month
Film content for instagoura weekly
Coordinate guest hosts for morning announcements
Organize Homeroom Visits (arrangements, agenda, and teacher notifications)

Commissioner of Rallies (2)


Organize at least three rallies per year
Coordinate rally set-ups and rehearsals
Coordinate with Commissioner of Events on Homecoming theme/script
Plan V-day to recognize outstanding students and groups on campus
Coordinate with Events & Dances on Homecoming Rally theme, court, and halftime show

Commissioner of Social and Cultural Awareness (2)


Devise and implement a program (a project or an event) that occurs routinely to celebrate cultural
diversity on campus
Plan at least two events/fundraisers per semester to acknowledge and recognize different cultures,
backgrounds, and identities including (but not limited to) those present among the student body
Educate Agoura High School on different cultures, current and past social topics, and/or issues
Coordinate with AHS clubs that are involved with cultural unity & awareness
Promote internationally/nationally recognized days and months

Commissioner of Spirit (2)


Create and implement a spirit plan for all ASB programs for the school year (year-long spirit
competition)
Organize spirit weeks, BBQ’s, and dress up days
Coordinate nutrition games at least twice per spirit week
Coordinate with other commissionerships to organize spirit competitions
Maintain and sell Power Plant apparel
Work with Athletic Department to coordinate patriotic observances at sporting events and promote
these events through Power Plant
Maintain reward system for spirit competition and point collection
Work with the commissioners of Athletics in selecting responsible and motivated crowd leaders for
home football games
In charge of Power Plant club and put on at least one meeting a semester

Commissioner of Video Production (3)


Plan, film, and edit Bolt TV
Publish Bolt TV once a month
Produce video and advertising needs for ASB through monthly Bolt TV episodes/Instagoura
Keep an inventory and be responsible for all Video Production equipment
Create videos as needed for pep rallies
Create videos as needed for Administration
Create Installation video
Create Senior video
Create promotional videos or 'highlight clips' for AHS sports teams, arts, and activities
Establish and advertise a fair amount of time needed to create said videos
Film, gather, organize, and archive footage of ASB events for future posterity
Collaborate with Broadcasting as needed
Work closely with the senior office to create the senior video

CONSTITUTION
OF THE
ASSOCIATED STUDENT BODY OF AGOURA HIGH SCHOOL

PREAMBLE

We, the members of the Associated Student Body and Faculty of Agoura High School, in order to
encourage a cooperative spirit, develop constructive student leadership, and promote student
well-being, do establish this constitution.

ARTICLE 1 Name, Colors, and Alma Mater

Section 1. This organization shall be known as the Associated Student Body of Agoura High School.

Section 2. Its members shall be known as the Agoura Chargers.

Section 3. Its official colors shall be blue and gold.

Section 4. Its official alma mater shall be:

Agoura, our Alma Mater,


We hail the Blue and Gold.
We admire your pride and honor,
And proclaim your spirit bold.
With devotion never ending
Even as the years draw nigh,
We’ll uphold the fame and glory of
Our Great Agoura High

ARTICLE II Membership
Section 1. The membership of this organization shall be composed of all the students of the high
school who are currently enrolled and in good standing.

ARTICLE III Source of Power

Section 1. The authority of this organization is derived from the Principal of the high school, whose
power in turn is derived from the Board of Education of the Las Virgenes Unified School District. This
power may be revoked by the Principal at any time. All appointed and elected members of the Student
Council are subject to the approval of the Principal or the Principal’s representative.

ARTICLE IV Student Council

Section 1. All legislative and executive powers herein granted shall be vested in the Associated
Student Body Council of Agoura High School.

Section 2. The Council shall be composed of the following members:


A. Executive Board: President, Vice-President, Board Representative, and the President of each class.
B. Elected Officers: Three officers from each class.
C. Appointed Officers: All appointed officers will be listed along with their job descriptions in
Council bylaws.
D. Advisor: The Principal shall appoint an Advisor to the Council.

Section 3. The term for all Council members shall be one year.

Section 4. Class presidents and officers must be the same class as their grade. ASB Board Representative
must be an Upperclassman. ASB President and Vice President must be a senior. The Executive Board
may appoint either Sophomore, Junior, or Senior candidates to appointive Council offices.

Section 5. The Student Council shall have the following powers:

A. To pass all legislation required for the best interests of the student body.
B. To determine methods for raising a student body fund and to approve the budgeting of such a
fund.
C. To award recognition for outstanding service to Agoura High School.
D. The sole power to grant power to organizations under the student body, and to suspend
or expel such organizations.
E. The sole power to release money to organizations under the student body.
F. To pass or amend any bylaws of this Constitution by a three-fourths vote, subject to
the approval of the House of Representatives.
G. To assume responsibility for all student body properties.
H. To approve all pins, emblems, clothing, or other forms of identification of Agoura
High School.
I. To assume responsibility for any student body activities not place in the hands of the
Principal by law.

Section 6. Meetings

A. The Council shall meet at a specified time, at least once a week.


B. All members, including the President, have the right to vote on all measures, except
the Advisor and any honorary members, who shall not have the right to vote.
C. A member of the Council may be expelled if three meetings are missed without
presenting a satisfactory excuse to the Advisor. Two unexcused tardies shall be considered
equal to one unexcused absence.
D. A quorum shall consist of a majority of the voting members of the Council.

Section 7. No student credited with less than one semester at Agoura High School (except for Freshman
Class Officers), or with more than a total of eight semesters in high school shall be eligible for a Student
Council office.

Section 8. Duties of Officers

A. The President
It shall be the duty of the President to:
A. Maintain and enforce this Constitution
B. Preside over all meetings of the Student Council and Associated Student Body.
C. Promote constructive student spirit.
D. Appoint successors to vacant Council offices (except that of Vice-President and
Representative), subject to the approval of a majority of the Council, the Advisor,
and the House of Representatives. In the event that the office of the
Vice-President and/or Representative becomes vacant, the President may
supervise an ASB election to determine a new Vice-President and/or
Representative.
E. Supervise the program of each Council member.
F. Represent the Associated Student Body at all Site Council meetings.
G. Review all bylaws to ensure that they are up to date and Council is in
compliance. These bylaws shall be approved by Student Council by March 1st of
that school year.

B. The Vice-President
It shall be the duty of the Vice-President to:
A. Perform the duties of the President in the absence of the President and assume
the office of President in the case of the President’s removal from office.
B. Manage ASB and class elections.
C. Serve as Speaker of the House of the Representatives.
D. Act as a liaison between the Parent Faculty Club (PFC) and Student Council
E. Brief the House of Representatives on their responsibilities and report on Council
actions to that body.
C. The ASB Representative
It shall be the duty of the ASB Representative to:
A. Represent Agoura High School at all School Board and Site Council meetings.
B. Attend and speak at all House of Representatives meetings.

D. Class officers and their duties shall be named and defined in Article VI.

E. All appointed officers and their duties shall be named and defined in the Council bylaws.

ARTICLE V Representative Bodies

A. House of Representatives

Section 1. The House of Representatives shall consist of one elected representative


from each homeroom period class.

Section 2. The House of Representatives shall meet during the last 15 minutes of a
class period into the first 20 minutes of support every month. If unable to meet during
the designated time, the meeting must be scheduled to the next available school day of
that month.

Section 3. The officers of the House of Representatives shall be a Speaker (ASB


Vice-President) and a Secretary and Parliamentarian elected by the House of
Representatives members from among themselves.

Section 4. After each meeting, House of Representatives shall return to their


homeroom class and are allowed at least ten minutes of discussion between the students
and their House of Representative member. Student concerns can be brought forth to the
Vice President during the House of Representative meeting by the representative.

Section 5. If the House of Representative member fails to attend at least three of the
monthly meetings during a semester, the Alternate will be promoted to official
representative status and the Representative will be demoted to the Alternante.

Section 6. The House of Representatives shall have the following powers:


A. To approve or reject bylaws or amendments to bylaws of this Constitution as
previously proposed by Student Council, by a majority vote.
B. To approve or reject the newly elected Executive Board choices for appointive
officers in Council the following year, by a two-third’s vote.
C. To approve or reject the Student Council’s impeachment of any appointive
Council officers, by a two-third’s vote.
D. To approve or reject the ASB President’s appointment of successors to any
vacant Council office, by a majority vote.
E. To make such recommendations to the Student Council and to pass such
resolutions as it shall see fit, and to set aside Council action by a three-fourths
majority vote of the House.
F. To represent the interests of the Associated Student Body.
G. To approve or reject bills presented by a Representative to the House, by a
majority vote.

Section 7. Impeachment of House of Representatives Members


A. Any House of Representative member may be impeached by a majority vote of
their homeroom class.
B. This action may be initiated by either the Speaker of the House or the members
of the representative’s homeroom class.
C. Following any such impeachment or other removal of any House of
Representatives member from their office, an election to determine a new
representative shall be held in that homeroom class.
D. The House of Representatives have the option to be re-elected by their
homeroom class each semester; or the homeroom class shall elect a new
representative and substitute.

B. Standing Committee

Section 1. The Council or House of Representatives may form a permanent standing


committee by a two-thirds vote of that body with the approval of the Advisor or the
Principal.

Section 2. The Standing Committee must have an expression of their goals and planned
activities approved by the representative body through which they are formed before they
can officially function.

Section 3. A Standing Committee is responsible to the representative body through which


it is formed.

Section 4. The Executive Officer of the representative group which forms a Standing
Committee must be annually elected by the House of Representatives to direct this
committee and allow any student to participate in this committee.

ARTICLE VI Classes

Section 1. Each class shall elect four officers: A President and three Class Officers.

Section 2. They shall plan and promote class programs and activities.

Section 3. All Class Presidents shall represent their respective class on student council.
