2. 5 Research Question

 Why is it important to understand the difference between sex and

gender?

Why I Want to Know: Knowing this helps to grasp that sex is about
biology (like being male or female), while gender is more about how a
person identifies (like being a man, woman, or non-binary). It's crucial in
understanding the complexity of human identities.

Why it's in Gender Studies: This question is important in gender studies

because it forms the foundational concept of separating biological
attributes from social and personal identities.

 What are some common stereotypes about gender roles and how do
they affect society?
Why I Want to Know: I'm curious about how certain beliefs about what
men and women 'should' do can influence how people are treated and the
opportunities they have.
Why it's in Gender Studies: This is relevant because gender studies look at
how society's expectations and norms around gender can shape behavior,
opportunities, and perceptions.

 How does the concept of intersectionality relate to gender and

sexuality?

Why I Want to Know: I've heard about intersectionality and want to

understand how it applies to gender and sexuality. It seems like it's about
how different parts of someone's identity (like gender, race, or class) can
overlap and affect their experiences.

Why it's in Gender Studies: This question fits in gender studies because it
explores how various aspects of a person's identity come together,
influencing their experiences and challenges, particularly in relation to
gender and sexuality.

 What are some of the key historical events or movements related to

gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights?

Why I Want to Know: I think knowing the history behind these

movements can give me a deeper appreciation for the progress that's
been made and the challenges that still exist.

Why it's in Gender Studies: Understanding the history of gender equality

and LGBTQ+ rights movements is crucial in appreciating the struggles and
milestones in achieving greater inclusivity and equality.

 How do different cultures and societies perceive and handle issues

related to gender and sexuality?

Why I Want to Know: I'm interested in how beliefs and practices around
gender and sexuality can vary around the world. It helps me see that
there's no one 'right' way of understanding these things.

Why it's in Gender Studies: This question is vital in gender studies

because it highlights the diversity of experiences and perspectives
regarding gender and sexuality, emphasizing that there are multiple valid
viewpoints.
