Revised DASAP Application For Microgrant
Executive Summary: Tell the DASAP Board what your business idea is, including the
name of your business, and why you think it will be successful. Include important
details, such as whose name any permits or licenses will be in. For example, if you are
starting an Uber service, whose name will the car title be in? If you are leasing land -
what are the terms of the lease? What research have you done on this business
concept? Did you talk with Uber drivers currently in the business? What did you find
out? If you are proposing a beauty salon - how many salons are in the area you want to
locate your business in? How will you market your salon to customers? This is called
market research and is important to demonstrate that you have a head for business in
general and specifically for the business you are proposing.
My idea of starting up a small business where i reside in kenya is that i have explored
that there are some business i can do if i have money to start up with. If i have to start
with a small business my #1 choice would be agriculture. I have some farming skills
from back home and i have learned that i can rent a farming land and produce such as
corn and sesame seed which is much consumed in africa and much profitable.
Expenses: Renting a land, two cows, equipment for the farming, and seed for farming
Revised 2.15.23
Business Model: Use the attached spreadsheet in Google sheets (Free Software).
❖ Expenses
➢ Cost of goods (initial investment needed and monthly expenses to
maintain the business). State here, first, what the costs are for starting
and then, running your business on a monthly basis For example, if you
are starting an Uber service - what is the cost of the automobile, the title
and taxes, the monthly insurance payments, the budget for maintenance
to the car, the projected monthly gasoline expense, etc. If you are
starting a “fish farm” - your initial investment will likely be large - provide a
list of equipment and the costs needed to start the business and then the
monthly items and costs you will need to maintain the business. Will you
have any employees? How many hours will they work and what will you
pay them?
❖ Revenue
➢ Sales (this is your projection of earned income - money coming in from
your business). State here, by month, what you expect to earn from your
business. You may not have sales in the first month. For example a fish
farm would require a few months of investment before the product was
ready to sell to the public. For an Uber service, you would expect to see
income coming in almost immediately upon launch of the business. It is
important to accurately project your sales, as best you can, and to make a
note of your assumptions. Use this space, here in Google Sheets, to write
out the assumptions you used in projecting revenue. For an Uber
business, how many hours a day/month the car will be in service; how
many customers you assume will use your service and average revenue
per customer, etc. Use the same type of information/assumptions with
other businesses - number of customers/month; average sales/customer =
revenue/month. Remember to list all your assumptions here, in bullet
format. If you are proposing a salon - how many days/week/month is the
salon open?
❖ Microloan Payback
➢ Loan payback schedule. This is where you state when and how much you
propose to pay back the DASAP Microloan. It is expected that Sanctuary
members will use their monthly assistance to pay back DASAP for
microloans. Simply state, how much and starting in which month, you
(and your partners if applicable), will begin microloan payments. Start with
the loan amount and then deduct what payment will be made toward the
balance each month until the loan is paid back. The attached google
sheet has formulas embedded so it will do the math for you if you put your
numbers in the cells.
