LEARNING OBJECTIVE By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to
1. To identify items in a house
2. To learn about the traditional Japanese house
PRE-LESSON Task 1: Work Out the Words.
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Teacher writes Japan on the board or show a map of Japan.
Students asked to tell each other in pairs / small groups what they
know about Japan. They will probably use first language for this.
When feeding back, students helped to translate some of their
ideas into English and/or provide them with some key vocabulary.
Students asked what they know about houses in Japan.
2. Teacher shows the pictures from the text on Student’s Book,
p.48. Students asked to tell what they can see. Students asked to
read the text on p.48 and highlight or underline any new words.
Students asked to the pictures to try to guess the meaning of the
new words.
Activity 1 (SB page 48)
1. Students look at the presentation and asked what the text
is about.
2. Students asked to point the appropriate picture as teacher
plays the CD.
3. Teacher plays the CD again and students encouraged to
shadow read. Students asked comprehension questions.
Activity 2 (SB page 48)
1. Students direct attention to the questions and explained
that they have to refer to activity 1 in order to circle the
correct answer.
2. Students read the sentences aloud and do the activity.
3. Students compare their answers in pairs, then check as a
class.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE At the end of the lesson, pupils will be able to describe at least 4 pictures
correctly.
ACTIVITIES PRE-LESSON Teacher writes how to help at home on the board and
circles the phrase. Pupils are called out to share their
answers.
LESSON DELIVERY 1. Pupils sit in groups of threes and talk about their
experience of helping someone. Pupils take turns to
share their experience.
2. Pupils are given a board game. Pupils take turns to roll
the dice and describe the picture where the game piece
is.
3. Teacher demonstrates the sentence pattern to
describe the picture. (present tense / past tense)
4. Pupils do the ‘Jelly fish’
POST LESSON Pupils are randomly called to describe the picture in the
board game by the teacher
