Present Continuous tense


USE
|. to indicate actions that are happening at the morment of speaing

FORM To form Presen Continuous, we use the verb TO BE and the rrain veNG
Afirmative: Iam ealing/ you are eating/ he/ she/ it is eating/ welyo
they are eating
Negative: Iam not eating/ you are not eating/ he/ she/ it is not eating we/
you/ they are not eating
Interrogative: Am leating?/ Are you eating?/ Is he/ she/ t eating?/ Are

EXPRESSIONS
SPELLING - verbs ending in -e drop the -e and take the -ING suffix:
take - taking have - having make - making
- verbs ending in one stressed vowel between two consonants. double
the last consonant and take the -ING suffix:
cut - cuting swim - swimming run - unning
verbs ending in -ie, drop the ending and take -y+ NG.
tie -tying lie - lying die - dying

Present Simple vs. Present Continuous
continuouS
Some verbs which are called stative verbs are not used normally in the
aspect. These are know, like, love, hate, have, understand, need, remermber, see, thinl.
want, believe, seem, smell, feel, taste, look, cost.
We can use however, some of the verbs from above in the continuous aspect, but with
a difference in meaning:

- think (= believe) you are right. ..but.. Im thinking (= considering) of buying a bËke
-Thave a cat. ..but.. I'm having lunch/ a bath/ a dream/ fun
- see Henry at work every day. ...but... 'm seeing ( am meeting) Henry toniaht
The coffee smells nice. ...but.. My cat is smelling (= is sniffing) the milk.
The cake tastes delicious. ...but. The chef is tasting the food to see if it
needs salt.
He looks tired ...but.. He is looking at a painting by Goya.
